My god... where do I start... everything from Stooges, Ramones, Damned, 1977 punk, early 1980s hardcore, 1990s garage punk, in other words everything crazy fast and drunk!
At last - "Stukas Über Shoreditch" by Johnny Throttle, the first new release on the Wrench label for almost 4 years. Johnny Throttle formed in 2008 and have been playing drunken, beer-soaked gigs regularly since then. They are fronted by ex-Parkinsons singer Afonso, and have former members of Menace, Shakin' Nasties, Jackoffs and Urban Shocks in the band. They play snotty, moronic and straight-to-the-point punk. Live, they bang out a furious 20-minute set of short and catchy Slaughter and the Dogs meet the Electric Eels type Punk Rock! This is probably London's best punk band, and definitely London's snottiest!
This record is available from www.wrench.org, and is also on sale at the stall at the back of the Dirty Water Club every Friday. It is also available for download from iTunes.
The Wrench Records label has been going since 1988, and the mailorder since 1995. The aim of the record label is to release high quality, and completely crazy, punk mayhem on vinyl. So far, Wrench Records have released records by the following bands: Rancid Hell Spawn, Parkinsons, Functional Blackouts, Real Losers, Loudmouths, Hot Rod Honeys, Henry Fiat's Open Sore, Lil Bunnies, the Steve McQueens, Savage Malignant, Crispy Nuts, Fifi & The Mach III, Tronics, Mensen, Superhelicopter Ltd, Sexual Abominations, and Tokyo Knives. Web site: www.wrench.org.
Label founder and punk veteran Charlie Chainsaw can quite often be found (usually pissed!) at punk and garage punk gigs in North London, in places like the Corn Rocket Club (Stoke Newington) and Dirty Water Club (Tufnell Park). Charlie released a number of releases with Rancid Hell Spawn between 1988 and 1995, and is planning to release a new EP with Rancid Hell Spawn some time during 2007.
