About me: Hi, I'm Jess (21) and I'm the author of the upcoming four-book series, Canterwood Crest, for tweens to be published by Simon & Schuster (Aladdin MIX) starting on January 27, 2009.
I'm also a freelance writer for newspapers and magazines. You'll find over 75 pieces of my work in magazines such as Girls' Life, Guideposts Sweet 16 and Listen.
I'm a former homeschooler who started college at sixteen and graduated with a BA in English from Florida State University in 2007. Soon, I'll be applying to graduate school.
I'm hard at work writing my series and am also working on a new YA novel. In the future, I plan to write a screenplay and write for TV. I'm also working on breaking into the glossy mags such as Seventeen and Teen.
I love supporting the Humane Society, Shriners Hospital for Children and horse-related charities. I had a spinal fusion at Shriners in St. Louis in 2000 and I'm president and co-founder of "Str8 Spines for Shriners" a support group for children and teens facing surgery. For several years, I volunteered with the Effingham Co. Humane Society and fostered dozens of cats and kittens.
I owned horses for several years (a Saddlebred/Tennessee Walker mix) and though I haven't ridden since my surgery, I can't wait to ride again.
When I'm not writing, I'm watching movies, studying characters on TV or reading. You'll find me spending way too much time on Variety.com. Oh, yeah, and reading Entertainment Weekly. :)

TAKE THE REINS (CANTERWOOD CREST), follows an eighth grader from her tiny hometown to a boarding school where she competes with the equestrian elite. This is the first book in my series for Aladdin MIX. I blog for Teen Fiction Cafe. Visit my Website for more!
Who I'd like to meet: Friends of Shriners Hospital, equestrians, animal activists, people who love horses, readers, writers, Nicole Kidman (my all time fav actress), Lauren Graham (seriously, was there a funnier actress who got robbed of Emmy glory?), Marc Cherry (genius writer!), Libba Bray, Bonnie Bryant (author of The Saddle Club), Hillary Clinton, Jack Sparrow, Dr. McDreamy, Ewan McGregor (adorable), Joanna Campbell (creator of the Thoroughbred series), JK Rowling, Diane Sawyer, Geena Davis, Jamie Lee Curtis
..

Congrats on the book series! That is quite an accomplishment at any stage of life, let alone at 21. I've always loved horses and wish I rode growing up. Never too late to start, I guess!
Ha ha, I know! See, I didn't know you were on here. Then yesterday, my brother mentioned you had put your cover as your myspace photo, and so that's how I found out :)
FYI: I'D LOVE TO WRITE A BOOK TOO! AND WRITE SCREENPLAYS. BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT PUBLISHERS ARE GOOD U KNOW! LOL ANYWHOO!! WILL PICK UP YOUR BOOK :) TOOTLES!
Thats so cool! I cant wait to read it! It kind of reminds me of the Heartland series and the Chestnut Hill series. Have you heard of those? They are about horses.
Thanks for the add! I'm so impressed by your bio. I'm a writer, too - and I've also written for Girls' Life and Guideposts for Kids. :) I'm definitely going to look up your new books.
