North Texas Writers in the Schools (WITS)

North Texas Writers in the Schools (WITS) and Writers in Neighborhoods (WIN) send writers to work closely with young people in 50-80 community and school programs each year. Sharing their passion for reading and writing, writers awaken each student’s imagination to the potential of language and self-expression.

CAMP Writers' Community and Mentorship Project Deadline: Dec. 1

Writers' Community and Mentorship Project (CAMP) is a non-credit creative writing program founded by the 2003-04 Texas Poet Laureate, Jack Myers, to cultivate local literary talent. About me:

..   I edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V4.4 (www.strikefile.com/myspace)

“Let a man in a garret but burn with enough intensity, and he will set fire to the world.”— Antoine de Saint-Exupery

Our devotion to community education begins with our name. The word “garret” comes from the French word garite, a watchtower and refuge during times of conflict. Literally, the word garret is that forgotten attic room with its bare light bulb hanging from the slope of a ceiling. The word garret summons images of old dusty books stacked high in every corner; Fitzgerald and Hemingway scribbling away in 20’s Paris; and artists of all kinds, poor and elite alike, finding the seclusion they need to create. The Writer’s Garret reaches beyond these immediate associations to create a living space with a vision, not just of the town below, but of the past, the future, and of your own inner self. We bring readers, writers, and communities together under one roof, providing a safe refuge to explore new ideas, study old ones, and to create, create, create. Join our community by taking a class, attending an event, or just dropping by for a hot cup of coffee and a good book.

Who I'd like to meet:

Anybody who is passionate about reading, writing, and / or artistic and creative endeavors in general--because it's all connected. Anyone who believes in freedom, individuality, self-expression; anyone who has ever been inspired by the way words or images are put together to make ideas, to make art, to connect and communicate with one another. Anyone who believes in the preservation of history, of stories, of culture, of passing them along to younger generations so that we may all better understand each other.

    High Five New York

Video documentation of a performance piece by my friend Nate Kassel who rode around on his bike slapping high-fives to people who were trying to hail taxi cabs in NYC. Enjoy!

    Hey there,

    Here's one from left field...

Ever wondered what to do in the event of a nuclear threat?

A while ago I found stuff that inspired me to make this film:

Living Under the Shadow of the Nuclear Umbrella

Both artistic (ensure you get the background music!) and educational, it primarily comprises official British government civil defence advice.

Though source materials are quite aged, much remains relevant today.

I encourage all to visit the YouTube page to learn more (Show support! Rate! Comment!) and responsibly circulate as widely as possible, here:

    Help to raise awareness.

Say have you checked out my web site recently?

Take care and keep in touch.

    Best,
    Faber.

Thank you for supporting OVFA! Please take a moment to look around our profile, read the blogs and answer the weekly questions! OVFA is a very open minded animal rights group that welcomes opinions from all who want to give them. We believe that every animal is as important as the next and none are ever left out here. From the land, to the sky, to the ocean, to your backyard and home, we love them all. Our supporters are extremely important to us so, please feel free to message anytime. You'll will get a response and all of your questions will be answered. OVFA is here for the animals, but we're also here for the people who love them. And when you get a chance, please visit our official website at, www.OurVoicesForAnimals.org and sign our guestbook!

I'm always asked the question "How can I help?" One easy way to contribute is to visit one of my favorite websites. www.TheAnimalRescueSite.com. Their sponsors donate food to shelter animals every time you click! Its easy, quick and free. But don't forget them on the weekends, their numbers really go down Fri-Sun.

Thanks again for supporting us and welcome to OVFA!
