LAST EVER TRANSITION
THIS FRIDAY

Shut Your Eyes and You'll Burst Into Flames

"Leeds' noise-punk band SYEAYBIF blend At The Drive-In rock angst with blissful guitar parts and driving bass lines. In a similar line to label mates Forward Russia SYEAYBIF some how manage to write compelling hooks which underpins their raw sound" HIGH VOLTAGE
"SYEAYBIF marry elements of post-punk, metal and indie-rock to craft an aggressive, confident and terrifyingly brilliant sound" LEEDSMUSICSCENE.NET

Day For Airstrikes

"The Longcut at their most post-rock crossed with the experimental intensity of 65daysofstatic" MANCHESTER MUSIC
"If you're yearning for the early days of Mogwai or some post rock with just a little more crunch than usual then you know what to do." BOOMKAT.COM

Married To The Sea

"Classic songs. Ever feel like you dont hear enough of them? This hook-driven quartet could just be the band you're looking for. Taking influence from The Weakerthans, Ted Leo, and Death Cab to name but three, there's a healthy pop sensibility to MTTS' intelligent brand of indie-pop, and tunes like 'Great! Now i'm in love' have a tendency to burrow into your skull and make themselves at home. Investigate immediately." The Fly

Little Hero

Playing with the full band that recently supported I Am Kloot in Manchester, Little Hero's influences include Will Oldham, Smog, Melvins and Low. Come early to hear the sound of a man pouring his heart out.

Friday June 8th at the Yorkshire House

The Answering Machine

"Timeless pop sensibility...melodic fuel for the brain...absoloutely amazing" - NME
"The Answering Machine are a concoction of sharp Strokes choppiness and weird Pixies type lyrics all topped off with some The Arcade Fire collective energy and a cute retro inspired dress sense". ANGRY APE

Far From The Dance

""They create a synth-powered anthem heavy cacophony that screams "Kasabian **** Off"". Their mix of acid-trip synth, alternating dual-guitar lines, cherubic vocals and über-tight drumming showcase their intelligent song writing perfectly. If the Killers were good, this is how they'd sound". BBC

Arms

"They're a slightly-techy, slightly mathy, slightly-intelligent (lol) rock band. Think Joan of Arc style guitar lines over the Descendants rhythm section and you're probably miles away, but getting the gist of it." goFASTER>> for www.mapsmagazine.co.uk

Jonny Swift

Local minstrel Jonny Swift perform, amongst others, his massive Lancaster party anthem "Disco Party". Jonny also sings in Missionaries, plays with the Handsome Devils and is a truly talented songwriter.

Tuesday April 17th at the Yorkshire House. Transition presents...

JENIFEREVER

Jeniferever are a quartet from Uppsala, Sweden. "Covering the same sweetly ethereal soundscapes as Sigur Ros, they deftly weave together the subtly textured melodies of bands like Explosions In The Sky. Hushed, insistent whispers, lush instrumentation and dense swells of guitar-driven meanderings evoke a sombre atmosphere of haunting beauty. The effect is mesmerising, quietly so, and all the more powerful for it." BBC

with

CAPULET

a soundscape of ringing notes and shifting time signatures played against cavernous bouts of ambient or barely audible interludes.

SPOKES

Mixing drums, bass and guitars with laptops and a violin. They have almost orchestral sound which fell somewhere between Radiohead and Sigur Ros

PAUL MARSHALL

Lush finger-picked melodies ghosting underneath fragile vocal lines that place him somewhere between Nick Drake, Iron and Wine and Red House Painters.

FRIDAY 2ND MARCH AT THE YORKSHIRE HOUSE:

DARTZ!

Very pleased to get Dartz! to stop off in Lancaster as part of their tour to promote their brilliant debut album This Is My Ship. You can buy it in HMV.

"A perfect collection of Dismemberment Plan chorus catches and limey At The Drive-In sloganeering... It's a short, sharp, smart and elegant punk rock party; a Northern explosion of dancing drummers and concerned cowbells. We enter expecting to be slightly amused and leave feeling joyously entertained." DROWNED IN SOUND

"Like Talking Heads on speed. DIY pop at its best; complete with cowbell loveliness." ARTROCKER

"Their unique mix of screamo tunes and splintering guitars form the perfect post-rock dancefloor fusion... any resistence from the crowd is utterly futile." NME

"Sublime, intricate songs and mesmerising stage presence." ROCKSOUND

"If I can find a tattoo parlour with the public liability insurance to tattoo the word DARTZ! on my heart, then I’m willing, and game." JAMES JAM (NME)

PLUS SUPPORT FROM HOWS MY POP, DEATH IN PUBLIC AND THE UNCOMFORTABLES

DOORS: 8:00PM

PRICE: £5

hope you can make it...

TRANSITION Wednesday 21st at THE YORKSHIRE HOUSE

NAPOLEON IIIrd

"Quite simply, Napoleon IIIrd is possibly the most visionary solo artist on the planet at this moment in time. If he isn't massive by the end of the year I'll eat my woolly hat." DROWNED IN SOUND

He makes a unique kind of pop music from piles of antique organs, car boot keyboards, strummed chords and driving glitched beats. His live show features a reel-to-reel tape player and a strobing acoustic guitar. He's already wowed audiences whilst supporting the likes of Hot Chip, !Forward Russia! and Clor. Influences include Smile era Beach Boys, Brian Eno, Daniel Johnston and Spacemen 3.

VESSELS

Dynamic post rock which stalks around your room before launching itself through a window." - Steve Lamacq

"If you took equal parts Deftones and equal parts Sigur Rós and mixed it all together the result would be Vessels." Rawkstar.net

Far From The Dance

“whirling dervish of dancing energy veering frenetically between classic abandoned rock, and anthemic piano led melancholy, before spinning off into more experimental areas, using buzzy synth dance rhythms and looped vocals…have the sort of chemistry, commitment and connection that will lead them somewhere special pretty soon.” Dissident Vox
“There’s no air in this band, they are tight as f**k! …. Mozart-punk …..”Tom Meighan (Front man of Kasabian)

goFASTER>>

"the most exciting new band to emerge from Liverpool in 2006…blend a love of intricate guitar lines with perfect pop melodies and some well placed playschool keyboards.” Gigwise.com
"enough musicianship and wit to excite even well-exercised lugholes. We predict goFASTER>> will goFAR>>" Fly Magazine

3D Tanx

Play a raw, energetic mix of The Fall, Spacemen 3, Sonic Youth and Brian Jonestown Massacre, complete with some mean sitar work.

plus...openin the night we have jonny swift of missionaries fame and great singersongwriter danny williams.

well i think you should attempt another gig as this time it might not be as scary...you should share your talent..yes you should!

how is lancaster?? am guessing you are at uni..?

and i was not aware that sheffield fell through..that isn't much of a shame as it isn't as pretty as lancaster.

and yes things are going ok with me...today at work i got told to piss off, scratched and ran not so fast after a runaway patient...

James! Have you ever seen the I.T. Crowd? Its quite funny! Chris Morris is in it and he's quite comical. More importantly though, there is a character who reminds me off you the way he speaks. Although he is Irish. And bleeds a lot.

I spoke to John the other day. He again says he'll come up. Maybe one day he will.

You don't have to dwell on a self, in order to justify empowering/expressing an experience.

Don't confuse the two. Come and read some of your words in Sheffield.

I've written dickall but hatcheted hay which combusts as soon as i lay second eye on it.
