I"VE A MAJOR INTEREST IN CREATING FOR YOU ALL AN IMAGINARY RECORD LABEL HERE IN THIS SECTION. DERRINGER'S RECORD LABEL! THIS SECTION IS DEDICATED TO GUIDING YOU TO THE PAGES OF THE BEST INDIE ARTISTS OUT THERE WHO'VE YET TO BE SIGNED AND HAVE KILLER ALBUMS THAT ARE WORTH BUYING IN THEIR ENTIRETY!
THIS IS AS BAREBONES AND GRASSROOTS AS IT GETS AND I MAKE NO MONEY OFF OF THIS WHATSOEVER... after all, it's IMAGINARY... that's it! ENJOY!!
THREE ARTISTS/BANDS CURRENTLY "SIGNED" TO MY imaginary record label are:
JOHNNY LLOYD ROLLINS was my first "signing" and I'm as passionate about him today as I was nearly four years ago upon first befriending him and hearing his music... It's been a pleasure to befriend him and watch him evolve into the artist I knew he would become. I heard the potential early on and now his debut is available for purchase... it is an instant CLASSIC and full of enough punch to launch him as a CAREER ARTIST... here is the link to preview and buy his album!
Now let's pretend I've signed a second artist to my imaginary label. THE HEART STRINGS! They are a fantastic new indie pop band from UK that are wonderfully infectious and addictive. This band has much going for it. Order their debut album today... the response from friends on here has been overwhelming for this band. You can't go wrong with them. You get to choose from three different album covers and the band will custom make them for you. Get yours before these first editions of the album run out!
Introducing my latest "signing", the amazing newborn band that has wow-ed me with their four free downloadable tracks... KRISSY AND THE JACKDAWS. These guys have a lot of potential to be massive. Raw UK vocals meet Nashville and Memphis soul with electrifying results.

BELOW IS DERRINGER MUSIC RADAR'S ONGOING SECTION OF BEST ALBUMS of 2009 (in no particular order until my BEST OF YEAR END LIST, but I do tend to put the strongest contenders near the top of this list, so do take note of those)
DERRINGER's A-LIST: 2009's MOST NOTEWORTHY ALBUMS SO FAR:
> WHEN THE DEVIL'S LOOSE by A.A. BONDY
> BLACKCHORDS by BLACKCHORDS
> ((un)) by DAN BLACK
> THE SPELL by ALPHABEAT
> ONCE by KID HARPOON *blurb forthcoming*
> THE RESISTANCE by MUSE *blurb forthcoming*
> LUDO SAYS HI by IKO *blurb forthcoming*
> ACTOR by ST. VINCENT *blurb forthcoming*
> HEARTBEAT RADIO by SONDRE LERCHE *blurb forthcoming*
> WONDER by LISA MITCHELL *blurb forthcoming*
> ARMISTICE by MUTE MATH *blurb forthcoming*
> CONDITIONS by THE TEMPER TRAP *I've been hearing buzz about this band all year from people who saw them at SXSW to people who just saw them at GLASTONBURY. Well, this is a fresh, fresh new band of the year, for sure! I know Jeff Buckley is a tired musical reference by now but this band displays a vocal that is as buttery silk as his was in many, many ways. There's a bit of TV ON THE RADIO, MODEST MOUSE and COLDPLAY in this bands sound. It's very soulful rock and roll. Almost Memphis soul-esque. It's hard to pin down overall. Regardless it is one of the '09's highlights*
> EVERYTHING IS NEW by JACK PINATE *I couldn't have cared less for Jack's debut. It barely made a stir in UK much less abroad with a more generic singer/songwriter style. Well, that Jack is out the window. Jack is now a brand new artist with an arsenal of style packed into his new sound. Just as Franz, Lily Allen, Wilco have each delivered excellent pop albums, Jack does so in spades and very concisely. Album is 9 songs chocked full with choirs, layered vocals, horns, Afro-beat. It is a never-ending joyride of freshness. Imagine Robert Smith and Vampire Weekend together with a pinch of good ol' George Michael flair and it's only the tip of the iceberg in description.*
> WILCO (THE ALBUM) by WILCO *This is an excellent album with plenty of summertime melodies and catchy hooks to leave a smile on the face. It's WILCO meshing their signature sound with a slightly more commercial flair resulting in a deliriously enjoyable album.*
>MANNERS by PASSION PIT *The helium-filled, high pitch vocals could throw some listeners out of the field of enjoyment, but I think this is an exciting pop album with melodies galore. Shimmering summertime production makes this an ideal album to crank up with the windows rolled down.*
> WOODEN ARMS by PATRICK WATSON *An exciting album that marries a truly mesmerizing voice (think Jeff Buckley but different) with the wide pallette of musical instruments of, say, ANDREW BIRD with the epic & cohesive feel of Arcade Fire's NEON BIBLE and you have a taste of what to expect. It's an exquisite masterpiece!*
> ABSENCE by PAPER ROUTE *a hip, stylish slice of cool Euro-pop/rock that actually sounds authentic for an American band from Nashville. They deliver beautifully on the promise of their exceptional '08 EP. They dive into more electro beats and synth waves in the vein of Depeche Mode and the more electro pop elements of Swedish band KENT. A few moments strike strong similarities to MEW, but ultimately it never spoils the experience. A few songs like GUTTER might even make Timbaland stand up and notice. This band has the potential to become the next hot "it" band for both celebrities and mainstream music lovers to name drop.*
> MEAN EVERYTHING TO NOTHING by MANCHESTER ORCHESTRA *ANDY HULL is fast becoming a name synonymous with songwriting excellence and he comes in many different shades (he has a softer side project under the name RIGHT AWAY, GREAT CAPTAIN)- each one reveling in narrative or personal turmoil. It's evident this dude has wrestled some demons in his lifetime and you can feel the power of his struggle thru every yell, every quiver in his vocal chords. In MANCHESTER ORCHESTRA, the meat n' potatos rock that roars out from behind him matches his scathing and scarred storytelling in guitars that blister and scorch the speakers. HULL understands the power of dynamics both musically and vocally, he and his band also understand that rock n' roll can intersect with indie-rock; that it doesn't have to bland, boring and dead. This bands prowls and pounces in all the right emotional and sonic spots. An enthralling beast of an album.*
> SUN GANGS by THE VEILS *They've outdone themselves again. A masterpiece. Their most focused collection of songs to date. Finn is still charismatic and intense as ever, but this album is dare I say more accessible on many levels than their previous albums. The brilliance that comes with the Veils is less about shaking up the formula and more about tweaking the shades of dark and light with each new album. Everything about the VEILS is epic, cinematic, raw, otherworldly...the sound of the Gods. Their gothic chamber feast of sounds is well worth a visit to their table.*
> IT'S BLITZ by YEAH YEAH YEAH'S *Some early comments I've seen have not been kind to this album. As a result, I worried about listening to it though I had heard "electro" bounced around in descriptions so I thought that would be a good thing. Turns out it is a GREAT sonic move. This album has a nice cohesion to it that moves from two strong dance-y electro numbers into more artsy, avant-electro pop and then slides into home base with three terrific final songs that punctuate the finale an epic, tender and lasting afterglow. In my opinion, this is YYY's greatest work thus far. Faithful, hardcore fans (of which I was not one) may find their sound rotting and tough to digest, but this is a trip to the Willy Wonka factory for my taste.*
> TONIGHT: FRANZ FERDINAND by FRANZ FERDINAND *This album is by far their most pop album! They stir in funk, r&b, electro, and island styles all into their dance rock and the resulting album is almost non-stop party with concise 2, 3, and 4 minute tunes that all are begging with melodic tongues swingin' to be spun on radio. This album is HOT! The boys have muscled up a pop masterpiece that slides with their signature angular guitar work and throw in alot of quirky moments on bridges and song outros. This goes immediately on my A LIST for 2009.*
> IT'S NOT ME, IT'S YOU by LILY ALLEN *This album continues to thrill me well into '09, so much so that I had to promote it up here. Love her or hate her... yes, she can be annoying when she goes on tangents and blogs in full drama form... she has matured with this album. I love the socially/politically relevant issues she tackles along with the playful charm intact from the first album. From spaghetti western to flashy Broadway pop to electro-delight this album has it all. A pop delight*
> TRUE ROMANCE by GOLDEN SILVERS *The freshest and best multiple-personalitied pop album since MYSTERY JET'S TWENTY-ONE. Much like TWENTY-ONE this album can't decide if it wants to be 80's minded, 70's minded or even 40's and 50's minded. Lots of "shee-bop"/"oooo" foundational soundscapes blended into more modern minded production. Hell, one song, ARROWS OF EROS is 80's one minute morphed into 70's by the end. If you like popular band reference points then Spoon/Super Furry Animals/Vampire Weekend fans should find much to love here as I caught a whiff of each throughout. An immediate winner of an album that you know at first listen.*
> THE BACHELOR by PATRICK WOLF *Yet another excellent album from WOLF. More experimental and envelope-pushing pop music with less of a commercial approach than his last pop masterpiece. A few weaker tracks toward the end of the album, but overall a solid knockout. A true legend in the music scene who continues to push himself in bolder directions.*
> EL RADIO by CHRIS GARNEAU *Garneau's second album extends the style he successfully acheived with his debut album. More quirk, more wine-drenched meloncholy. He's damn good at downbeat goodness.*
> JUNIOR by ROYKSOPP *promoted from Honorable Mention to A LIST! This album is Royksopp's finest album since their masterful (and still superior) debut MELODY A.M. With guest spots from Robyn, Lykke Li, Karin of THE KNIFE/FEVER RAY and more, this album much like Lily Allen's is a stellar pop album packed with plenty of electro hit singles just waiting to score many a Friday/Saturday night dance floor*
> FINE FASCINATION by RED LIGHT COMPANY *Killer band, killer debut album that is a non-stop adrenaline, fist-pumping album chocked full of catchy melodic hooks and endless sonic pleasures. This band could be massive and arena rockin' in no time.*
>MERRIWEATHER POST PAVILION by ANIMAL COLLECTIVE *The gunfire heralding 2009 hasn't even sounded and we are immediately thrown a mind-bending album of weird, wonderful songs from this oft-left field group. Make no mistake this album hasn't washed out all the zany, psycho sounds they are known for, but MERRIWEATHER does find the band pulling from the PANDA BEAR album's Pet Sounds influences a lot more here while blending in more dance/electro sounds than AC have previously used. This is the album that announces ANIMAL COLLECTIVE to the mainstream as a couple of tunes in particular could really be embraced by wider audiences than they've known in the past. Get ready folks, this deservedly will be a most talked about album for the first quarter of 09. It has the power to remain on the radar 12 months from now when year end lists begin emerging as well. This is PET SOUNDS for the hipster generation. It will still annoy the hell out of some people, but this is undeniably attention worthy.*
> VECKATIMEST by GRIZZLY BEAR *For some reason I find this band so hard to describe and yet they aren't completely "out there" musically. Crystalline sounds flow into fields of harmonies and timeless sounding vocals to create a universally likeable sound. It's all about the atmosphere and mood. Vocals are traded off but one of the members reminds me of the voice behind Jeminy Cricket when he would sing in Pinocchio (that is not meant to be a criticism but a praise). There is a timeless magic to this band's sound. Unfortunately, this album doesn't have a "KNIFE" on it and they lent what I consider to be one of their best songs DEEP BLUE SEA to the DARK WAS THE NIGHT comp earlier this year, but this is a solid set of tunes. They lack melodic hooks for easily cementing in the head, but they make up for it in the layers and layers of atmosphere they create for further dissection with each listen.*
> THE LAW OF THE PLAYGROUND by THE BOY LEAST LIKELY TO *The formula hasn't changed up a whole lot since the debut but it's equally as charming and yields the same smiles and melocholy-meets-sacchrine emotions. They have added enough production nuances and instruments to keep it fresh without sounding too redundant. A lot of it has a more of a honky-tonk/fiddle vibe ala the APPLE WAGON song from the debut than previously displayed which is quite fun. I love this band... in fact, I tend to think that if I were represented by a band or collection of songs that TBLLT is as close to my personality/life soundtrack as anything out there. They are masters of a paradox statement of music and lyrics. Whereas album three should have the purpose of moving things forward, this second one has enough strength behind it that I forgive its lack of band evolution.*

Heroes
Rodney Bingenheimer - THE MAYOR OF SUNSET STRIP guy... his "word" amongst the music industry was "gold"... he had the magical touch and knew bands worth shouting about...
ATTICUS FINCH - a great example of love, patience, forgiveness, humility,
great leader skills, and a loving father...
Record Producers: specifically Dennis Herring, Nigel Godrich, Rich Costey, Jackknife Lee, Ken Nelson, Ethan Johns, Victor Van Vugt, Rick Rubin to name a few, they have all produced albums that have changed my life
Ben Afleck and Matt Damon *their Oscar win influenced my decision to strongly look into film, etc.
Charlie Brown - a big loser who always picks himself up and tries again...and the man who created him... the REAL CHARLIE BROWN... Mr. Charles Schulz... may you rest in peace, great sir
John Steinbeck, Harper Lee, Milan Kundera, Flannery O' Conner, Linford Detweiler.
my parents. For odd reasons and typical ones.
My cousins Josh & Roman - Josh fought in IRAQ & Roman is an EMT and looking into military services. They are braver than I will likely ever know.
the late great Robert Polke aka PEEPAW POLKE aka my great grandfather - You impacted me in ways you will never know.
People throughout the history of time (Mother Theresa, Bono, St. Francis of Assisi to name a few) who have impacted the world by teaching us FORGIVENESS, FAITH, HOPE, & LOVE by showing us FORGIVENESS, FAITH, HOPE, & LOVE in its most potent and powerful form and without all the exaggerated force and often selfishness/hypocritical/fearful propoganda that many churches try to use on people... there should never be tactical methods... just us living our beliefs and letting them stand on their own without trying to forcefully "save" people or make them change...

derringer's music radar is madly in LOVE with the film WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE. Saw it twice this weekend and it's a MASTERPIECE that deserves to be remember at Oscar time. Posted at 5:47 AM Oct 19 view more
PLEASE NOTE!! I HAVE A NEW POLICY REGARDING ADDING FRIENDS!! I will ONLY add bands/artists who WOW me and people who either personally write me, whom I've met, or message me letting me know they want to keep up-to-date on my music recommendations/blogs. I don't have a goal of collecting as many friends as I possibly can... I have a goal of establishing a group of people and artists who find my page somehow helpful in their search for great music both old and new. Many of my current friend count are bands/musicians that have added me over the last two years. I don't like the idea of people coming to my page and thinking "damn, he's got (enter high number) friends, he must think he's cool"... ha, boy would they be fooling themselves... I try to stay humble.
Who I'd like to meet:
I'LL LET DIABLO CODY COVER THIS ONE:
"A guy who loves me for exactly what I am. Good mood/bad mood, ugly/pretty, handsome, what have you. A guy who thinks the sun shines out my ass."
Of course, this all applies in reverse as well.
MY FAVORITE ALBUM OF MY LIFETIME THAT I COULD NEVER, EVER, EVER LIVE WITHOUT:
LORIEN - UNDER THE WAVES *available in US ITUNES store*
This is the ideal album for anyone out there like me who is into SURREALISTIC, INTERGALACTIC, FANTASY ROMANTICISM kicked into their European rock complete with a voice unlike any other...I'm convinced that Fabio is an angel... ALL MEMBERS STILL ALIVE (see Orlando Ef and Eberg in my top friends), but sadly, the band split after one album. This is the "TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD" in the realm of albums in my humble opinion. My personal favorite song on the album is DISAPPEAR but naming a favorite is nearly impossible, I swear. My greatest birthday wish is that they would reunite for just one show on my birthday one year in whatever city I am living in and let me witness the beauty of the album live. I am gutted that I didn't get to see LORIEN live and that LORIEN has become an unknown treasure to many music fans. Walk thru Lorien's poetic lyrical wonderland here: http://lorien.lyricsfans.com/
GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN:
