The Nomad
Biography
Multi-talented with achievements to match, The Nomad (Daimon Schwalger) has taken the road less-travelled in search of the good groove.
The internationally-renown DJ / producer has crafted a significant and successful career for more than a decade both behind the decks and in control of his production studio, having released five albums to date and currently working on his sixth album from his new base in Melbourne, Australia.
That album is due to drop in 2010 and features a top line-up of New Zealand and international guest talent, continuing The Nomad's use of the cream of collaborative talent. Among them ar, Fur Patrol's Julia Deans, Tehimana Kerr and hip-hop star King Kapisi. On the foreign tip, the UK's Urban Soul Orchestra (USO) and vocalists Aswan and Sunny Dread, both based in Australia.
Tours of New Zealand and Australia are scheduled for Oct, Nov & dec.
In 2008 The Nomad celebrated ten years since the release of his first album Movement with Selected Works, an album of favourite originals, remixes and new tracks.
Beginning in 1993 in Dunedin, New Zealand, Schwalger has turned a passion for new music into a profession that has seen him DJ sell-out crowds around the world.
The Nomad’s first album Movement, released in 1998, caught the attention of British dance music pioneers Rockers Hi Fi (Different Drummer, UK) to begin a partnership that spanned subsequent releases. The Nomad’s acclaimed sophomore album Second Selection was released in 1999, laying the foundations for the Nomad’s unique blend of reggae, dub, hip-hop and electronica, containing “141” featuring Farda P from Rockers Hi Fi.
Second Selection was awarded the “Best Dub/Hip-hop/Reggae Release” in the B-Net New Zealand Music Awards.
Schwalger broadened his international horizons in 2008 by relocating to Melbourne, Australia to focus on developing an ever-increasing fanbase across the Tasman and hitting the Australian summer festival circuit.
