The moment Samuel Wyatt heard Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan for the first time as a 12 year old would end up being the initial seed for what would become Wyatt years later. At the time, Chicago native Samuel dropped his ambitions as a competitive swimmer to pursue music fulltime. Strangely, it wasn't the guitar he picked up. It probably would have happened if it was around, but instead, the living room piano would have to do. Though he didn't realize it at the time, he was transferring Jimi's primal aggression and chaos to the medium of the keyboard. This was balanced off by the lyricism and subtlety that he learned from Dylan.
As years rolled on, Samuel began shaping his bombastic piano style around original songs (which he amassed hundreds) which he also sang. He ended up recording many of these songs with two musicians he met in his late teen years - Allan Hall on bass, and Lucas Gillan on drums. They clicked immediately. The Wyatt sound definitely covers the spectrum from hard rocking uptempo songs to thoughtful, introspective ballads.
With the release of their debut LP, Welcome to America, in mid July, Wyatt is eager to put a new stamp on the Piano Rock genre. Lately they have been doing so with their energetic live show that has been moving across the Chicagoland area.
Our new album 'Welcome to America' is now available on Itunes and CD baby!!!
