Pure Horsehair is the words and music of Garrett Devoe. Acoustic finger-picked songs focused on the ‘tender brutal’, unflinching sense of quotidian disarrangement. Many Pure Horsehair performances and recordings are collaborations with multi-instrumentalist Shahzad Ismaily, the dew on the grass &/or a foot to the ass.
Both currently live in Brooklyn, New York, where Garrett has released ”Mumbly Peg- Fuck the Cave Easy”, “c”, and “Aubade” and has recently finished recording a few songs with Joe Blaney (The Clash, Keith Richards, White Magic). Last year Adluna Records released “You Can Burn a Corpse but You Can’t Kill a Ghost”, a live performance recorded in a chapel in France.
Shahzad has played with Sam Amidon, Ceramic Dog, Secret Chiefs 3, Laurie Anderson and Lou Reed.
