  • Bio

Chosen as one of Strathmore's Artists in Residence of the 2012-13 season, Wytold layers percussive bowing and melodic finger-picking on bodyless, shoulder-strapped, six-string electric cello. Selected as one of three musicians to be awarded the "Young Artist" grant from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, Wytold's first solo album was released in June, 2011 with several tracks receiving international radio airplay in Europe and Australia. Two extra strings on his electric cello allow Wytold's music to capture the depth and power of a stand-up bass, the rich tonal timbre normally associated the cello, and the bright crispness of violin solos and harmonies. Wytold records these sounds live on both electric and acoustic cellos to create his own rock-orchestral accompaniment on stage, frequently accompanied by percussionists Bryan Bowman and Jerry Tolk.

Definitely will be stopping by tonight. Sam is itching to get out and dance a little too but I feel that I'm not quite ready to do him justice musically. And yes there is an album on its way. It even has a barcode. It should be available May 1st if I don't spend all the money I've saved for packaging on booze and pickles.

Bio:

Wytold sings while layering percussive bowing and melodic finger-picking on the cello. Two extra strings on his electric cello allow Wytold's music to capture the depth and power of a stand-up bass, the rich tonal timbre normally associated the cello, and the bright crispness of violin solos and harmonies. Wytold records these sounds live on both electric and acoustic cellos to create his own rock-orchestral accompaniment on stage.

Formerly the cellist for songwriting trio Between Liberties, Wytold is moving from Pittsburgh to enter the Washington, DC music scene. In addition to developing a slew of new loop-cello originals, Wytold also retains a few of the Between Liberties songs he wrote (including "In the City," which received airplay on national public radio station 91.3 WYEP, and "American Dreams," which received a Runner-Up Award in VH-1's Song-of-the-Year Competition of 2007). Occasionally Wytold covers songs on the cello by other artists ranging from Kelly Clarkson to Jimi Hendrix, but his true passion resides in channeling innovative and quirky songwriting through unorthodox cello playing. ..
