Xander Naylor is a guitarist/composer currently living in New York City and studying at the New School. His playing and composing is split between bands in New York ( EFOL, an improvised duo with Johan Andersson), and Vermont (Xander Naylor Trio ft. Ian Kovac and Peter Negroponte, and Mint Kitchen -- a collaboration with Willy Lamb-Orgel).
The sound of the Xander Naylor Trio is firmly rooted in group improvisation. As a group, they pull inspiration as much from rock, grunge, noise, and ambient genres as they do from the traditions of jazz. Composer and guitarist Xander Naylor provides the majority of the material, which in any given piece may incorporate a lulling ambient chord-progression, a biting distorted guitar riff, a catchy pop melody, or all-of-the-above. The dynamic duo of Ian Kovac and Peter Negroponte – on upright bass and drums, respectively – serves to flesh out the sound and hold the grooves tight, creating a firm pad from which to launch into an extended group improvisation.
The new Xander Naylor Trio album Mentally Mobile is now available to the public -- and aside from being available at all of our shows, it is also now on iTunes! The tracks "Attention/Nice To Meet You" and "Mind At Ease" are from said album. "aka Mini-Food" and "Malaise Extractions" are home productions.
"Xander Naylor plays inspired and original jazz compositions backed by a rhythm section tighter than your knit scarf in -20F." - Andrew Menke, The Deli Burlington
"This is challenging music that demands some mental mobility, but rewards it in kind." - Jarrett Berman, Seven Days

Hey thanks for the compliments! I accepted your friend request late when I was half asleep, so I don't remember exactly what it was... but I remember being complimented.
Anyway, I'm diggin' your music. Keep in touch. -Scott
xander, i've been meaning to tell you this for a while:
your music is like a breath of fresh vermont air that's been bottled and stored in a state of the art, climate controlled facility in robert madoff's subterranean guest chambers' basement deep below midtown and then forgotten about but discovered in an archaeological excavation one thousand years in the future as part of the construction of the new 5th ave super-super express line that takes you from staten island to van cortlandt park in two minutes (we hope...right now the funding is tied up in albany) and is then auctioned off at sotheby's to the highest bidder, james maddoff III, a distant cousin of the original robert madoff, who is later discovered to have operated a giant ponzi scheme and forced to declare bankruptcy and have all his possessions auctioned off and my cryogenically frozen future self who has just recently been thawed is lucky enough to obtain and open, not realizing that he is unleashing the power of 1000 year old climate-controlled fresh vermont air, which with age has turned into a huge gust of wind that sweeps over the northeast, puts a smile on everyone's face, and cures lung cancer.
Yeah dude that was a dirty-ass gig I'm really glad you played with us. We handed people's asses to them on silver platters. Your cd sounds good I listened to it in the car today. Your tunes are all sick and I can really hear the influence from North Indian (Hindustani) classical music in Peter Negroponte's composition. Let's play some music when I get back to VT. (Next week)
Thanks for your request! I wrote everything but Chelsea Bridge (wich I changed pretty much the changes and the melody...) Thanks for listening anyway and thanks for your music...beautiful sound!
that sounds weird.. hm.. everything is fine here in sweden, cold and rainy but that's a good excuse to stay inside and play music. we had a gig this week in malmö with some people from my school. we played some of brian blades music. it was great! what's going on in new york? thanksgiving, right? must be nice to have some vacation...
Hey thanks a lot. We're still developing our sound but we really appreciate you taking a listen. Your tunes sound great. let us know when you get that cd finished
