Ameranouche!!! Modern Gypsy jazz and hot acoustic wildness: Shepp, Xar, Ryan: http://www.ameranouche.com Our new album will be out in mid June 2008; we are just finishing it up at this time. Three tunes off the first album were picked up for use in a National Lampoon film in '07, and director Kevin Wheatley called the trio, "The new sound of America." Ameranouche pushes the boundaries of human velocity. While it is essentially Django-inspired Gypsy music, it seems also to hit home in the vein of present experience. The music wings by like a runaway tricycle, reminding listeners of the things past, future, and present, that are of love. Ameranouche plays all along the eastern seaboard and, sometimes, beyond. Loki: Frank Mauceri (sax), Mark Barnette (drums), Xar and, not pictured, Thomas Mueller (piano, rhodes) and Mike Whitehead (trumpet). Loki takes several forms, duo through quintet, and plays in their home state of Maine. Named for the mythical trickster who also is known for changing forms, this group is about playing playfully and being musical, melodically. We seem to gravitate toward honing in on the simple beauty hidden in monster tunes (kind of like monster trucks) by folks such as Tom Harrell, Tomasz Stanko, Wayne Shorter, Steve Kuhn, and other harmonic sprites.
