Influences
I'd like to think that there is something to be taken from any piece of music, from the stuff you listen to for inspiration, to my personal favorite, the folks you listen to to find out what NOT to do. Here are some who inspire me: Larnell Harris (literally taught me to sing), Whitney, BoyzIIMen, Take6, Arlene Sparks (premier vocal instructor), Luther, Stevie, Donnie (not Hathaway, just Donnie), JMoss, Lauryn Hill (ur not crazy!!) and Musiq. Here are some who make me wanna push my self (sometimes over a cliff!!) D'Angelo, Donny Hathaway, Harry Connick Jr., Oscar Peterson, PJ Morton, and Kim Burrell
Sounds Like
This album sounds like the soundtrack to my life at the time of writing.(Ain't that cliche!!) Honestly, I've heard people say it sounds like a gospel Musiq Soulchild. (I can live with that) You can definately hear the Jazz, Latin, and Traditional colored songs on it. I like to make concept albums and I feel like each genre and style has an advantage in helping you paint a specific picture.
Xavier O'Connor & Testify Add to My Profile | More Videos
Born and raised in South Florida, Xavier began his singing career at the tender age of two. He captivated audiences with his readiness to perform and unique style. After years of singing at local churches and events, it had become clear that Xavier was embarking on a life long mission that would one day carry the Lords message far and wide.
Growing up in the Seventh - day Adventist church, Xavier was a regular soloist for services and programs. Around the age of nine years old, after years of working with other pianists, he began to feel a need to learn the piano himself. He started taking lessons as a classical pianist and two years later began training himself to play by ear. At fourteen he was enrolled in the Palm Beach County School of the Arts. There, Xavier furthered his study of music and sought to broaden his wings by also becoming a writer.
As Xavier entered Oakwood College in Huntsville, Alabama, he decided to wholly devote his time to the spreading of the gospel through music. While studying as a Music Business major, he created Testimony Ministries, Inc., a non-profit organization devoted to the performing arts and the spreading of the Word.
The Pilgrimage is Xaviers debut album from Testimony Records. Entirely written, produced, performed, and recorded by the artist himself, it serves as a personal testimony of his trials and the unending struggles we all face to make it into the Kingdom someday. Embracing musical genres such as jazz, neo-soul, Latin, and R&B, it is Xaviers hope that his message will be influential in sharing Christ with the world.
