About Chris O’Grady / CounterpoinT

CounterpoinT (Christopher O'Grady) was born in 1975 and grew up in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan. He began to play the violin from the age of 5 to 10, the coronet at 11, the sax at 12 and guitar at 14. With a background in classical music and a talent for composition he started searching for bands to play with but was never satisfied with traditional rock music, he began collecting drum machines and synthesizers to compose a music of his own.

After Djing at various Detroit warehouse parties he was offered a weekly residency at the Motor Lounge in 1998 which was awarded "The Best Club in America" by Urb Magazine.

Meeting a French girl while studying in Michigan he moved to Paris in 2000 where he held a residency at the Korova off the Champs-Élysées. Meeting Kent Williams (aka Chaircrusher) by chance in a Parisian record store gave him the opportunity for his first release on Cornwarning Records. He then moved to London in 2001 to study towards a Degree in the Recording Arts where he organized events with FDX and as a consultant and judge for the Movida Corona Dj Competitions.

After completing his degree he moved back to Paris where he worked as a Corona Event Dj and started focusing on production. Counterpoint's remix of El Farouki's Instinct EP was released in 2006 and was highly reviewed. Chris also teamed up with Paul Wiltshire to form Visko City whose latest remix for DJ Exacta was featured on the Sounds of Playboy compilation for Ministry of Sound.

From Detroit to Paris to London and then Back to Paris; Christopher has recently married that French girl he met back in Detroit and they have moved to Dublin, Ireland where he holds a weekly residency at The Morgan.
