The Xenophobes -- an unruly clump of three guys with a
profusion of big hair, free-wheeling cowlicks, and
outrageously original music – recently announced the
release of their latest EP “Don’t Breathe In “. The
three teens – Austin Barnett (guitar and vocals), Fil
Corbitt (drums), and Chris Stehman (upright bass) --
tap into their hick-town roots for a sound that’s a
musical soup of psychobilly, punk and post-hardcore,
with splashes of indie and metal. The resulting
concoction is an eerily hypnotic rant they’ve dubbed
G-ville Psycorebilly, the G-ville a mock tribute to
Gardnerville, the small Nevada farming town they all
grew up in.
“We grab some of this, some of that, bits and pieces
of music from all over the place and all over the
years, then we deconstruct it, throw it in the blender
and take it to the stage,” said Corbitt of the
Xenophobe’s eclectic ensemble. “We’re never quite
sure where we’re going with the next piece,” he added.
“But somehow the bizarre has a way of making musical
sense.” Local promoters and a growing fan base
definitely agree as is reflected by the surge in
bookings for concerts and interviews. They’ve
also planned several upcoming trips to the San
Francisco bay area.
