Hi. Historical footnote: Xero's first band have reformed after more than 30 years and are currently recording and writing material for a brand new album, based largely on the original set from 1975. Come join in the fun.
Matthew was wholly unique - a great artist in the broadest sense & impressively oblique. Had the pleasure of sharing a billing with him once at the Trades and Labour club leeds '84. Penny black shades, titchy sax. He liked changing his hair a lot too.
you've been featured on THE MIX - an unsigned show exclusive to DrystoneRadio. co. uk, which plays out at 6.00pm on Saturdays and repeats on Thursdays at 9.00pm.
first time I 'properly' met Mathew, I was a lorry driver and a mutual friend arranged that I would give him a lift to London. I said yes but he had to be down the Calls (Leeds)at 5am, I therefore assumed he would not make it (too early for a jazz man)!! At one minute past 5 Mathew cruises round the corner on his unicycle, sax strapped to his back, big smile on his face, a memory I will always cherish.
