After seven years, two e.p.'s, hundreds of shows and much insanity, Xerus has called it quits. The man behind the band, M.T. Letsinger, is moving to Los Angeles to give the rock n roll dream another stab. He came to this decision after the mayhem of tying out so many different drummers. He felt it was best to move somewhere where so many people have the same goals. He leaves behind a fantastic bass player and drummer and many friends whom he loves very much. Please stay tuned either here, the Xerus website or his music page for updates on just what is coming next from M.T. Letsinger. A special thanks to all the bands we played with, all the support we have received from so many of you and anyone who ever gave a shit about our band. It has meant the world to us that you would accept us into your life and let us preform for you.
Xerus (pronounced zeer-US) is the brain-child of singer / guitarist / songwriter Michael T. Letsinger.
Started in 2002 in Minneapolis, MN, Xerus spent the first couple of years tightening their sound before going into the studio to record their self produced debut e.p., "The Wrath Of Ra." Once released in 2004, they set out to play out as much as possible, piling into the van when they could to get out to Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin. As they grew, so did the songs.
Going off of the advice of an industry professional MT met at SXSW '04, the band decided to enlist the help of a producer for their next record. Nashvilles own Chris Mara came to the rescue and in November of 2006 the world got its first taste of the new Xerus with "This Impossible Everything" During the recording process of that e.p., Xerus lost its original bassist but quickly found a great replacement in Scott Sachs. With the band in tact and nowhere to go but up, they headed back out into the Twin Cities bar scene with much success. The CD release party for "This..." at 7th St Entry was one helluva show and let more than a few people know that Xerus will, if you let them, kick in your skull.
2007 turned out to be both a great and tragic year. Finally getting some much deserved attention, Xerus was accepted to play at the Red Gorilla Music Fest at the industry savvy SXSW festival in Austin, TX. That helped pave the way for them to do a nation wide college radio campaign and land representation for a nation wide tour due to take place later that year. At least that was the plan...
After finishing runners up in the Whiskey Wars Battle of the Bands, and having played all over the midwest for most of the year, Xerus began to focus on the next record and tour. That is, until singer/guitarist MT was faced with tragedy that September: he lost his mother to cancer and three weeks later lost a best friend to an overdose. Understandably, all MT wanted to do was to throw himself into Xerus and lose himself in the only thing thats ever helped: music. But, the shitstorm didnt lighten up then. At the end of October, for personal reasons, Travis decided to leave Xerus.
Over the next year Scott and MT saw 24 different people behind the kit. After all was said and done, they decided to go with a long time friend, Eric Vinyard.
Eric has been in many different projects through out the US over the years. MT and Scott have no doubts this new blood will bring about a more open,
rock sound while keeping the unique vibe of Xerus in check
