XEW started singing since she could make a sound, her most vivid memory being 3 years old singing along with "The Yellow Submarine". She grew up listening to different extremes, from her father's Black Sabbath and KISS albums to her mother's pop and gospel records. Growing up in Louisiana also gave a different influence not found elsewhere, French and Cajun folk music that embraces its people. Little did she know what an impact this would have on her later down the road in life.
Throughout elementary and high school she studied voice and sang in the chorus. She began studying to be a recording engineer in college but dropped out due to unexpected events in life. She turned her back on music feeling it was more of a curse than a blessing. The harder she tried to run from it, the more it consumed her thoughts. This began her search for answers to explain this "burden".
Cracking open the family history, she discovered many family members were also avid musicians in their youth. But it still wasnt enough to explain how deep the music ran. By chance one day a little family secret emerged. Her great-grandfather was also a bit of a songwriter. More research brought on the knowledge of a set of his recordings with sound engineer Dr. Harry Oster (in the same field with Alan Lomax). These recordings proved to be more important that he might have ever imagined, to the French culture, but more importantly, to Pétra. Ceasar Vincent penned a song entitled "Travallier, C'est Trop Dur" (Work, Its So Hard), that became a part of French Acadien folklore. The song has been covered by the world-renound band BeauSoleil (collaborated with Mary Chapin-Charpenter), Zachary Richard, and raggae musician Alpha Blondy. Recorded in the 1950's, no one could've imagined how far his songs would travel.
Six years passed since she touched any music...until this discovery. Finally understanding where the drive came from, along with the strength from a friend, gave her the will to try again. In 10 months time she created a large catalog of work that she held in all this time. Keeping with family tradition, she is making a comeback to the love of her life, singing and creating music... As of current, XEW has worked on collaborations with many up and coming indie artists.
