What is in a name? Is it merely something to be called . . . merely something by the sound of which you are recognized?
Or is it something more important?
Proverbs 22:1 says "A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches. . ." That says to me that a name used to be more important.
I believe, for one reason or another, our names tend to be self-fulfilling prophecy. So what you name yourself can make an impact on who you are.
So what is xhristos|phoreo?
It is the Greek disection(and slight misspelling) of a very common name: Christopher.
xhris-tos' phero means "to bear Christ". Phoreo is the infinitive of phero, so xhristos|phoreo means "continually bearing Christ" (or "I bear Christ", as I've been recently told).
So what does it mean to continually bear Christ? Is it only when we want to? No. Is it whenever we're doing "right"? No. No matter what, we bear Christ to the world.
What we do reflects on His name. So what can we do but give everything we are to bring glory to Him?
About Kris:
I started out playing piano in 2nd grade, and wrote my first instrumental song before high school (I don't remember exactly when). I've tried to put words to it, and either it's too poorly written, or it's just never meant to have them, 'cause it's never worked. After going through a painful time when I essentially lost all of my friends, I picked up an acoustic guitar and played 3-6 hours a day for about a month, learning how to play all the praise & worship music I knew. From there, I've met several guitar players who have showed me various tricks and helped me slowly get better. A couple of years ago I started playing with electric guitar . . .so far it's been good for fun and amusement, not much more . . . More recently, I've returned to my ivory-tickling roots, learning anew the versatility of the instrument.
As far as writing is concerned, most of the stuff comes from journals that I write during times when I'm feeling introspective. I'm one of those people that won't put anything down unless it sounds right, so I spend a lot of time forming lyrics out of disjointed thoughts.
About Brett:
Brett freakin' rocks on lead. Alternately known as "El Snap", he has so many musical influences that I've never heard of, and he can play just about any style you put in front of him. Part of this stems from the fact that he teaches guitar for a living, so he has to know how to do it all. I don't know how long he's been playing . . . probably since he was born. He currently also plays with at least two other bands (Dallas Stevens Band and Taken), and has played with many others in the past (Harlan, Local Trademark, Lifted, etc.).
About Steve:
Steve is what I like to call a "cool cat". He can make anyone laugh without ever laughing himself. Affectionately called "Paw-paw" by the rest of us (since he's slightly older), he has an extremely dry, sarcastic, yet highly intelligent sense of humor (He's a philosophy major at Texas Tech). He also (though he won't necessarily admit it) plays a mean electric guitar. You won't see him jumpin' up and down, but he will lay down some sweet licks.
About Justin:
Justin is a happy person; like, extremely happy. It kind of counteracts the dark cynicism that Brett, Steve, and I (Kris) emit. He's also one of the best sound engineers that I know. He can make just about anyone sound like a real band in minutes, and then he'll try to explain what he just did . . . and you'll catch every 3 words (such as "the", "a", and "an").
