In July 2009 Xicano Records and Film will proudly present their 12th Annual “Farce of July” multi-media benefit concert. This ‘Edu-taining’ event is one that brings together some the best in the Los Angeles underground music, performance, and art scene. Inspired by this vast and diverse talent yet aware of the lack of representation of Indigenous/people of color/local artists in mainstream media, X.R.F. utilizes this as a catalyst to organize this all ages event, along with art workshops, live music, poetry, theater, and speakers from significant community centers and organizations. Past concerts have included performances by Tijuana No (Mexico), M-1 of Dead Prez, Luis Rodriguez, Casper (New Mexico), The Brat, as well as known LA based performers Medusa, 2Mex, Quetzal, Ollin, Aztlan Underground, and Quinto Sol, among many others.
Xicano Records and Film, is a Los Angeles based grassroots collective and network of musicians, organizers, visual artists, poets, performers, and graphic designers. Through fundraising efforts, and a network of community and artist resources, X.R.F. has been able to put out such records as “Sub-verses,” 1998 by Aztlan Underground, the “Peace & Dignity,” 2000 music compilation, and “Mujeres con Palabra,” 2007 by In Lak Ech, among others.

| | Sounds Like | Every year through the Farce of July concert XRF strives to benefit local and national causes. In 2007, the event benefited the United Farm Workers’ campaign to alleviate farm worker families profoundly affected by the recent California freezes. The Farce of July 2008 will benefit the Peace And Dignity Journeys 2008, a spiritual run promoting cultural exchanges between indigenous nations. This is a symbolic run organized in the spirit of unity among indigenous peoples of the western hemisphere which promotes peace, justice, respect, and dignity. Taking place every four years, the Peace And Dignity Journeys has been hosting spiritual runs since 1992. This years run is dedicated to Sacred Sites and will begin May 1, 2008 in Chickaloon Alaska and Tierra del Fuego, Argentina and will meet in Panama.
