Formed in 2005, Providence come from the depths of filthy Paris and play dark and brutal hardcore, full of crushing breakdowns. Since their beginning the band sought to innovate rather than imitate, intending to create a combination of social/political awareness and aggression. Feeling that hardcore had strayed from its roots and DIY ethic into subgenres like Emo and Chaotic Metal, a good, basic, heavy sound is their aim.
Providence’s style is huge, metallic and epic, yet manages to be efficient and straight up at the same time. A low and thick dual guitar sound is underpinned by intense double-bass drumming, mostly switching between mid-tempo and punishing breakdowns but occasionally breaking into full-on bursts of hardcore speed. The hoarse-growled vocals that complete this already potent formula are complimented by monstrous gang backups, spitting out venom on a variety of topics including politics, economy and the craziness of the world, yet maintaining a poetic turn of phrase.
Providence’s violent and energetic live shows, to-the-point music and thought provoking, bleak, reflective lyrics never fail to impress live audiences. With the quintet always eager to hit the road, their fanbase is constantly expanding outside of their city and country, forging a blazing path of hardcore force and brutality that France hasn’t produced in quite some time.

Far Beyond Our Depth
Paris’s Providence destroy everything in their path with 7 tracks of monstrous metallic fury on their debut MCD ‘Far Beyond Our Depth’. Total new school hardcore brutality filled with devastating beatdowns and crushing mid-tempo stomp parts, Providence’s downtuned mix of basic bludgeoning aggression and more complex structures conjures up a dark and bleak vision. Sure to inspire frenzied reactions with its punishing and drawn-out danceparts, ‘Far Beyond Our Depth’ features furious double-bass drumming overlayed with a dense and impenetrable wall of dual guitars. Hoarse vocals, with occasional spoken passages, and huge gang backups complete the equation, as do distinctive and original elements such as the hip-hop influenced drumming on ‘Tentacles of Evilution’ or the melodic singalongs on the epic closing track ‘This is Filthy Paris’. The menacing poetry of Providence’s lyrics is reflected in the bleak yet beautiful artwork, the perfect accompaniment to titles such as ‘Swim and Sink’ and ‘With Broken Wings’ which are filled with veiled meaning and menacing imagery.
Of course, many bands in this day an age can boast similar elements to their style, but the efficiency, economy and to-the-point aggression Providence display is sure to set them head and shoulders above the competition. Not one note is wasted, making ‘Far Beyond Our Depth’ a breathtaking and accomplished metallic hardcore debut.
