112 LIVE @ PPAC - Friday, July 11 TICKETS ON SALE NOW!

As part of Providence Sound Session '08 genre-defying music festival, "112" will be performing at the PPAC on Friday, July 11 at 8p.m. - post-performance party follows at the Black Rep for select ticket holders...ask for details.

The Providence Black Repertory Company was incubated in the early 90s as a pilot grassroots Public Program called "Xxodus featuring Miss Fannie's Soul Food Kitchen" at AS220 (an established neighboring arts center). Along with a second program called "Round Midnight: A Rapper's Delight," these two performance workshop venues successfully cultivated a solid foundation where local, aspiring artists can practice and perform their craft while attracting hundreds of community supporters from their neighborhoods and beyond.

Public Programs at the Black Rep are at the heart of the theater's multidisciplinary artistic vision. Not only do they serve as the founding, or grassroots, programs that incubated what is now The Providence Black Repertory Company, but they are also integral to the theater-based school curricula and public humanities programs that the Company has developed since 1996, and are designed to teach an appreciation and respect for the performing arts. Xxodus Café's multi-media approach, interdisciplinary format, and wide artistic spectrum attract youth, entire families, community organizations, visiting scholars and playwrites, professional and local musicians, emerging performing artists, and jazz enthusiasts.

Richie I saw u twice/
Played ball with your brother for two years/
And never knew the connection/
Until sitting at your memorial gathering///
Tragedy, teaches, triumph
Still ignorant brother won't respect the movement/
So we keep pushing to make the world know your name
Richie Ragz your unforgettable///
I'm looking at your pictures/
Listening to your versus/
Realizing I'm just like you///
Crazy BM just like you/
Almost lost my life in the same circumstances, just like you
He had a smile that could melt KKK member hate……………….
Saw u the first time
In your prime
Rocking the mic at AS220
On the same stage where I battle in poetry slams……..
I was smiling to myself during the show bobbing my head to your flow
Thinking to myself…..
This cat………….he's going to make it…..
Wish I would of said something and told you then……
Now I put this in your brothers hands/
And raise hands to sky…..
Asking GOD why
The youngest under wings of eagles had to die
U could of pick anyone wasting their lives at Kennedy Plaza…………….GOD why Richie???????///
I'm just a hawk
Watching from a mile away
Praying you keep flying
Higher than condors
Higher than horizons………
Lord………..
It finally makes sense
The connections…no coincidence
FEDD HILLS family
Brotherhood
Triumph
Tragedy
Flying
Horizons……………………………………..
I sit
Listening
Writing futures like Nostradamus…
I know you made it
And one day
Well be with you
In heaven
With all Gods children
RIP Richie Ragz

Spittin' Images < Introduction to its origin: The inception of Spittin' Images took place in late 2005 in Providence, Rhode Island in a small studio above the Cuban Revolution located in the heart of the theatre district. Political activist and local filmmaker, Napoleon X invited four poets to each write a poem based on his short-documentary film, Black Men Can Fly. The film briefly illustrates how George S. Lima, a black aviator, educator and activist overcame poverty, prejudice, adversity and ignorance to become an American hero. During the process of composing their individual poems based on Lima's life, the artists discovered that many of Lima's life experiences mirrored their own lives. This common thread became the impetus for joining forces to form a collective performance group. The group was originally called, Protown Princes of Poetry, and later it was amended to Spittin' Images. Spittin' Images is a fusion of contemporary urban rhythms mixed with Spoken Word and influenced by elements of jazz, gospel, blues and hip-hop. Comprised of award-winning slam poets and accomplished musicians, the trio performs material that speaks to a universal audience while staying true to it beginnings as an instrument for encouragement and social change. With an emphasis on exploring the common characteristic found in music from Negro spirituals to contemporary hip-hop, Spittin' Images endeavor to positively affect the Black consciousness. The group addresses issues su
