A Long, long, long time ago, around nineteen-hundred eighty, in Cebu City of the Philippine archipelago, somewhere on the 3rd floor of Danaque Building of Osmeña Boulevard, the Rhythm of the City, Y101 was born. In 1984, Y101 moved to the Cottages of Cebu Plaza and spent 11 great years hidden behind Plaza's parking lot. In 1996 Y101 moved to the Lobby of Cebu Plaza and this became our home for the next five years.
While many other FM radio stations have altered their programming, Y101 has always kept it's Hit Radio format. Surveys have shown, the Rhythm of the City has maintained the positions as No. 1 choice in their target audience market..
In 1995, Y101 increased it's mighty power to 10,000 watts from the original 5,000 watts. on that same momentous year, among the 24 FM radio stations in Cebu, the Rhythm was chosen to be the exclusive affiliate of Voice Of America (VOA)..
In 1996, Y101 obtained a Digital Audio System from Computer Concepts, USA. This setup called the DCS is the most widely used digital audio system in Europe and the USA. Computer Concepts has chosen Y101 as the radio station to introduce it in the Philippines. In fact, many have been peeping in our radio station to check out the DCS. With this system, all songs, jingles, advertisements and effects are loaded in the DCS computer and can be played on-the-air either individually or in a pre-programmed mode. This eliminates CD skipping, MiniDisc miscues, tape hissing, audio degradation, dead-airs and other problems related to analog and first stage digital devices..
The programming and scheduling of the songs are also computerized in order to provide a musical play list with the best rotation of current hits, recent hits, Golds (big hits of early 90's, 80's and 70's) and fresh new releases not yet discovered in other stations..
Not so long ago, our production room has also been upgraded with the latest Digital Audio Production Computer System with the capability of 64 tracks. The DAPCS streamlines all aspects of audio engineering using the most current analytical engine. The year 2000 marks the birth of Y101 in Cyberspace. Y101 is now broadcasting live via internet and heard all over the world. This proves, once again, y101's commitment to spearhead technological advancement in Radio. Working with our partners in technology, Y101 is able to send out crystal clear signal to anywhere in the world. In just a few months, we were able to penetrate globally through listeners from Canada and the United States, as well as listeners from all over the country including Manila and Davao..
December 2002: Y101 moves to the 4th level of Ayala Center Cebu.
2003: Y101 ranks Number 1 in the Radio Research Council (RRC) Car Survey!
2004: Y101 adds broadband streaming over the internet. We have improved our live internet broadcast to offer CD quality sound to listeners around the world.
April 2005: Y101 tranfers to a new home in the 2nd Level of the Gaisano Country Mall in Banilad!
