I am a woman, a daughter, a sister, a mother, a poet, an author… I find beauty in simple things like the wind, the smell of rain, a newborn’s cry, chocolate; I could go on and on and on. The plethora of ordinary pleasures is endless. My true passion however, is writing. I write to free mind and my soul. It’s a wonderful thing. I write, therefore I am.
The Human Condition

Inherently bound by the tie of the human condition
Well beyond the ken of man’s collective cognition
It embodies a sequence of chronological events
With biological components no man circumvents
A wide spectrum of experiences shared by most
Arbitrarily tendered that life neutrally boasts
Reinforces the seam of a connective thread
The common ground on which we ultimately tread
Feelings, emotions and the awareness of time
Strike a metaphysical chord as poetic as rhyme
Suffering and disappointment indiscriminately select
An unsuspecting target to discreetly infect
No socioeconomic status, gender, creed or race
Nullifies life’s contract we all inevitably face
The human condition is the tie that binds
A philosophical obligation lent to all mankind
It’s a relative phrase with a subjective definition
As such, welcome to the human condition
Who Am I?
Yolanda A. Merz © 11/2/05
Who do I think I am, you ask
Supplying an answer is no small task
For you see, I transcend your mere words
And choose to define myself of my own accord
I am a dignified woman of great integrity
To the likes of which bears no uncertainty
I am honest to a fault, often lacking in tact
The words I speak are concise and exact
I am no stranger to the cruelties and adversities of this place
And face each and every challenge with absolute grace
These trials and tribulations have shaped the woman I've become
A self proclaimed survivor whose efforts go unsung
I scoff at those who dare to challenge my intentions
And beckon you instead to heed my circumvention
As always, self-assured in all that I do
I feel compelled to ask this question, who the hell are you?
