Yamit Mamo is one of the shining stars of London's music scene- known to audiences across the capital for her powerful vocals and sensitive acoustic soul. Her influences have included Love, Life and Freddie Mercury and the past 3 years have been packed with highlights in a promising start to Yamit's career as a powerful performer and talented writer.
These highlights include the making of a documentary about Yamit's impact on London's flourishing music scene, regular performances in some of London's most prestigious venues for unsigned musicians, including The Bedford, The Cobden Club, and The Regal Rooms. She performed in the opening of the BBC Proms season- singing to massive crowds in London's Trafalgar Square in the summer of 2006. Shortly afterwards, a gig at the Secret Garden Party festival also received rave reviews for a performance standing out for it's unique combination of intricacy and stirring vocal power.
Yamit was crowned 'The Big Voice' in a National competition in November 2006 and since the launch of her long-awaited EP in February 2007 has wowed crowds at Glastonbury Festival and The Jazz Café. That year, Yamit also performed at the IndigO2 and the international release of "Death at a Funeral" took place, on which Yamit sings the title track. Excitingly, Yamit sung worldwide on television screens in an appearance alongside Kylie on the Dr. Who Christmas special and is also featured on the Dr Who series 3 album.
2008 has been an exciting year so far for Yamit, with a well-received 3 week tour of The Netherlands, selected summer festival dates, and recording has now begun on her debut album with renowned producer Brio Taliaferro (Sugababes, Leon Jean Marie, Sam Sparro) in both Berlin and London. This album is bound to stun those who hear it, through the sheer magnitude of Yamit's voice delivering a series of sumptuously written tracks she has been writing alongside some of the UK's finest, including Topham & Twigg, Peter-John Vetesse, Judie Tzuke and Anna Krantz.
