About me: she stood on the balcony shivering,
wondering where the time had gone,
it felt delicious to pull the blanket tighter around her and feel its soft, enveloping, comforting warmth,
looking across the river she could see the others engrossed in their play,
they looked like dancing shadows against the fiery, glowing sunset,
she closed her eyes and breathed deeply, enjoying the alternating feeling of cold breeze and warm rays on her face,
she smiled as she remembered the young girl from long ago,
another lifetime it seemed,
who would have cowered in the light of the rays she was drinking in....
taking into her....
fearing that the "cursed" rays would make her as dark as night,
remembering the tale of "Black Beauty" always brought some comfort...
the beloved horse with the gleaming black coat who was loved in all his darkness for the spirit he possessed within,
but she was no thoroughbred, only a child in the land of men.....
