Yatra - literally translated from Hindi - means journey or pilgrimage, and that
is the basic vision of our project. Passengers with a different heritage meet on
a musical journey.
Raimund Engelhardt initiated the project creating a flexible, creative organism
of musicians, singers and dancers. Together with Johannes Krieger he
experimented and composed orginal material integrating various genres of music.
The result is an international ensemble with excellent artists from Spain,
Chile, Italy, Portugal and Germany.
Gipsy music from the Balkans, complex Indian music structures, elements of jazz
and flamenco are melting into a soundscape crossing borders.
Their music blends ancient traditions as well as contemporary modern expression.
Traditional instruments from different cultures:
The hammered dulcimer (zimbal), trumpet, acoustic bass , Indian tabla, flamenco
guitar, the afghani lute rabab, singing and dancing and the international
origin of the ensemble members take the audience to a worldwide musical
journey.
