About me:
Yellow Brick Road is a volunteer-based street outreach program established in 1984 in Portland, Oregon. We are just one component of Janus Youth Programs, a widely-acclaimed social service agency established in 1972. Yellow Brick Road outreach teams are on the streets of Portland, Oregon EVERY NIGHT of the year between the hours of 6pm-9pm! We have lots of information about local shelters, drug & alcohol treatment programs, alternative schools, GED assistance, emergency medical resources, and more. We also provide basic first-aid & hygiene supplies to ANYONE in need (such as socks, triple-antibiotic, tooth paste & tooth brushes, and lots more)! Yellow Brick Road is a non-political, non-religious, non-judgemental organization that provides immediate eye-to-eye advocacy & community resources to Portland, Oregon's diverse street dependent population. Yellow Brick Road is a volunteer experience that changes lives!
Who I'd like to meet:
Yellow Brick Road has created this profile in an effort to better serve young people (and youth-identified adults) in and around the Portland, Oregon area. We recognize that the internet is the new streets and we want to be available to young people who may benefit from our services wherever you hang out. Are you struggling with drugs or alcohol? Have you dropped out of school and feel that you have no alternatives? Are you couch-surfing with friends or living outdoors and confused about how to turn your life around? Are you in an abusive relationship? Yellow Brick Road may be able to help! Drop us a line, we would love to hear from you! But please remember these guidelines to keep yourself anonymous & safe: PLEASE REMEMBER THAT MYSPACE AND THE INTERNET IS AVAILABLE TO JUST ABOUT EVERYONE IN THE WORLD (including people that may want to harm or exploit you)! WE WANT YOU TO BE SAFE! NEVER DISCLOSE ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PAGE (such as your real name, age, address, school, etc). NO YELLOW BRICK ROAD OUTREACH WORKER WILL EVER ASK FOR YOUR NAME OR ANY OTHER PERSONAL INFORMATION ON THE INTERNET! If anyone claiming to represent Yellow Brick Road ever asks for personal information please contact us immediately at dlundberg@janusyouth.org

According to the Dallas ISD Police Department a new drug is on the streets directed at our young people. The new drug mixture known on the street as "Cheese," is a so-called "starter form" of heroin. 54 felony and 24 found property cases involving this new drug mixture were handled by the Dallas ISD Police Department during the 2005-2006 school year.

With the school year now underway, parents, educators, and public safety officials should be alert. "Cheese" is typically found folded inside a small paper bindle.
Analysis of "Cheese" shows that it contains acetaminophen, diphenhydramine hydrochloride, and up to 8 percent heroin. Due to chemical interference caused by acetaminophen and diphenhydramine hydrochloride, forensic analysis can be challenging. It is believed that "Cheese" is manufactured by mixing a small quantity of heroin with a large quantity of crushed Tylenol-PM(r) caplets, a commonly available formulation of acetaminophen and diphenhydramine hydrochloride.

"Cheese" appears to be a favorite of Hispanic juveniles, both male and female. Users as young as 13 are known to be experimenting with this drug.

Typically described as a light tan colored powder with granules varying from fine powder to 1.5 millimeters in size. In a similar fashion to snorting cocaine, "cheese" is snorted through a tube into the nose. The effects that one may experience from "cheese" are euphoria, disorientation, lethargy, sleepiness, and hunger. As heroin has proven to be highly addictive, "cheese" appears to follow in the same characteristic and symptoms of withdrawal may onset as fast as within 12 hours of cessation of use.

Another characteristic that attracts youth to "Cheese" is the cost. Typically, a capsule of "Cheese" can be purchased for $5 to $10, making it affordable for the very young.

Parties truly interested in making a change need to work together to organize and develop plans and programs to coordinate anti-drug efforts. A comprehensive, community-wide approach to substance abuse and its related problems will be the result. At the center of this approach must be effective prevention and rehabilitation methods. Education, that is, "Drug Education," has to be the first step. As a society that desires a drug free world, we must step up and take responsibility for educating our children. DO NOT FORGET--OUR CHILDREN ARE OUR FUTURE!

Narconon International has many resources to help someone overcome drug addiction. We offer educational materials to help prevent drug abuse.
