Yellow Light Go, hailing from Baton Rouge, LA, was formed in the ‘winter’ of 2004. What started out as the random musical ideas left over from a previous, and now defunct band turned into actual songwriting sessions between long time friends Chris Jessup and Joshua Nee. The two began an on-the-side musical endeavor with Baton Rouge drumming veteran, Joey Breland (Chris Leblanc Band, Warbabies, Mike Pinter 4) and feverishly began churning out the songs that would become the core of Yellow Light Go sets. Nee’s sexy roommate, guitarist Spencer Johnson, joined soon thereafter and the newly founded quartet was on its way, playing its first shows to very responsive crowds at The Caterie and North Gate Tavern. A slight roster change saw local jazz drummer phenom Jonathan Grimes replace Breland behind the drums and the lineup was complete.
With the personal inflections of each member’s distinct musical stylings evident in each song, Yellow Light Go offers a fresh look at pop rock. While one song resembles At the Drive-In, the next may be reminiscent of Guster. Defying any kind of all-encompassing classification, Yellow Light Go’s sound remains a curiously fresh one, prompting music listeners and fellow musicians to admit they are totally awesome. You will fucking shit yourself. Really.
