Yellow Minnow's original material is hook laden and memorable, with jam sections and improvisation. The vocal harmonies and dual guitars blend with the funked-out, yet artistic rhythm section. This combination creates a diverse musical landscape.
****** A small fish projecting big sound waves, Yellow Minnow was formed by four artists who came together in search musical freedom. The group's style is rooted in funk, jam, rock, blues and jazz. They throw in a dash of hip-hop and improvisation to bring out the flavor. ****** A musical connection was developed between guitarists Ryan and Jeff when the two met in St. Cloud, MN where they met at SCSU. Since then, they have been involved with a couple other projects, such as the Mankato based band The Sideways. After that band parted ways, Ryan and Jeff met Ken, who was new to the Twin Cities area. Ken had played bass with groups from a few different areas across the country including New York, Colorado & New Orleans. His funky bass lines meshed with the music Ryan and Jeff were writing. The trio later met Jesse, who had recently returned to the area after living in Vermont. His artistic drumming style was the perfect addition to complete Yellow Minnow's sound. ******
I just wanted to stop by to say hello and give you a little update on what Blood Root Mother is up to! We will be recording an EP of new music in August, and we recently finished recording a live DVD. The DVD is currently unreleased and I actually just saw it for the first time a few days ago. It features the last two performances with Tony Ellis still alive, and some footage from the tribute show we played on the night of his funeral.
There are some cool covers, as well as some NEW music that will be on our upcoming EP. We're very excited about the new music and we'd like to share a sneak peak with you. Here's a video of a new tune called Run Bobby Run:
