So it’s uncool to name the influences, eh? And instead I should select a bunch of random crap like cupcakes and chickenwire and slide-whistle concertos?
That I don’t really care for. Some bands I like to namecheck.
David Bowie, T. Rex, Pavement, Serge Gainsbourg, Al Green, Spoon, Portishead, Air, Donovan, My Bloody Valentine, Beck, Pink Floyd, Elysian Fields, Jeff Buckley, Alpha, Earlimart, Velvet Underground, old Lenny Kravitz, Clientele, Neutral Milk Hotel, Mazzy Star, Curtis Mayfield, Okkervil River, etc.
Sounds Like
passion... honesty... love... fearlessness... dare i say self-actualization... the sounds that run through my head
imagine yourself slightly intoxicated, though not at all lost. your pulse beats gently as you notice that your surroundings are a bit more vivid. maybe it was the now consumed half of the drink in your hand, or maybe it was just that presence-- exactly the right company sits half a seat away from you on a comfortable couch in the dim, warm lights, and the only thing you could possibly want is to move closer.
Yes Means Yes seeks to share this feeling with you. it's an art, music, and performance project.
comfort and safety can be strange concepts. we wish to feel alive, but when the worst happens we forget any of the happiness we ever felt before. but it works both ways, and moments of bliss are untouchable. a friend of mine once said he wanted to live life from 1 to 10. the trick is, the high end of the scale can't be reached without risking the low end. is it worth it? i would say anything is worth it, because knowing true happiness only as an impossibility is more painful than anything that could be experienced. the future is open so long as it's still there. so i'll open all the way up, protect nothing. our soft secrets can't be embraced if they're hidden away.
The Philosophy:
It's simple really. The things you fear restrain you. There's no need to worry about what might hurt you-- let go of these inhibitions and be guided by your true self and your sense of gravity as you chase your desires full speed. It won't be easy to handle at every moment. No, it'll be visceral, and you'll really live. When the hard times pass you'll be grateful for them and how they shaped you. If you seek the right things, you'll find that the rewards are endless. Follow that heart of yours... that brain just wouldn't understand.
"The moment you have in your heart this extraordinary thing called love and feel the depth, the delight, the ecstasy of it, you will discover that for you the world is transformed." -Juddu Krishnamurti
