The Paradoxical Commandments by Dr. Kent M. Keith
People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered. Love them anyway.
If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives. Do good anyway.
If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies. Succeed anyway.
The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway.
Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable. Be honest and frank anyway.
The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds. Think big anyway.
People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs. Fight for a few underdogs anyway.
What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight. Build anyway.
People really need help but may attack you if you do help them. Help people anyway.
Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth. Give the world the best you have anyway.

Who I'd like to meet: How you look is only important if that's all you've got to offer.
In this video, where Obama takes questions at Google.... the intro is something like, "senator Obama is the product of a Kansas mother and a father from Kenya, born in Hawaii...your history of course.. Columbia, then Harvard, state senator, then senator. welcome to Google..." the first question Eric asks him is, "when you see yourself in the presidency... what is it you are going to do that is exceptional. what is your reason that you think this country is going to be a great country?"
you know, DM and other bands like them get mocked for their synth sound and whatnot, but DM's lyrical content is not only emotional as you said but PHILOSOPHICAL as well. i call them my guilty pleasure(my boyfriend and i tease each other for our likes;he's into the hair bands from his youth!), but DM actually has merit and influenced other acts(and they're still around, so they're doing something right!). I totally fell for DM in a big way. Even though I'm knowledgeable about and appreciate "high-brow" music, I still consider DM my fave...they just speak to me, simple as that. i always respected martin as he wrote all the lyrics, but dave got all the attention since such a good frontman. right now, i'd love to re-hash and type some good lyrical one-liners in tribute to martin, but i have a million things this procrastinating girl needs to be doing. maybe instead i'll leave you a video of painfully shy(and young!)martin doing his classic ballad:
and for people reading and not knowing DM, they aren't all "soft" like the video, either;it just became a classic song, and was a break from their usual MO!
i always meant to tell you i loved your profile song. i grew up being a big DM fan, and i was pleased dave's album did well(plus, i personally love its chill-out sound). i'm posting an old DM song to show you dave's progression..lol...
while always having the energy and charisma of a frontman, he's gotten more refined w/ age..lol...
Where there is light, there is hope. Where there is friendship - peace and truth. Christmas is a time for celebrating the special people in our lives. When we cannot find our way, we light a flame.
