REVIVED...by young people on the streets of the city of York in a series of indoor and outdoor performances, the York Youth Mysteries is a new and exciting interpretation of the medieval York Mystery Plays.
REMIXED....using a wide variety of different performance methods – dance, live art, drama, physical theatre, circus, media installations – the event will encompass anything and everything that can put a new spin on the plays.
RETOLD....for everyone and it’s absolutely free. So make the most of the longest day of the year and be entertained right in the heart of a beautiful city by something utterly unique.
Who I'd like to meet: York Youth Mysteries is for everybody to come and see and it won't cost you a penny. Add us as a friend to receive more information as the day draws nearer and make sure to tell your friends to add us too - we want as many people as possible to be able to experience this!
As well as the amazing audio samples above, check out poet John Siddique reading aloud poems written collaboratively with prisoners from Askham Grange Prison:
Sunday 31st August Some Kind of Signal presents...
[sub]NOVA + Section 30 + Pray for Hayden + Martin Wainwright
LIVE :: Rock/Grunge/Emo/Hardcore
[sub]NOVA is melodic aggressive grunge at its best, a swirling cacophony of hypnotic sound pleasure, with resonances of Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains: "It’s easy to imagine [sub]NOVA filling stadiums. They’re tight, polished and deliver a huge sound." - BBC Raw Talent. Section 30 are York’s own rock monkeys, comprised of members of such get-ups as Nightproject, Arcana, and Falling Fifty Stories, Section 30 are fast, energetic and fervent. Pray for Hayden are coming straight out of the Leeds rock-circuit and whispers say they are destined for big things, with elements of At The Drive In, Hell is for Heroes and Hundred Reasons - confrontational and insistent (Powerplay rated them 8/10.) Martin Wainwright will be warming up the crowd with an assault of acoustic emo powerpunk, with a sound reminiscient to that of Fall Out Boy.

Wednesday 20th August Some Kind of Signal presents...
Loudmouth Soup + The Lazy Darlings + Kasima + The Vile Darling Set
(a little bit folk, a little bit rock, a little bit narcotic country pop)
Loudmouth Soup are a wonderful gumbo of Country, Folk, Psychedelia, Vaudeville and various other unlikely sounds. The 'Soup have recently headlined Alan Tyler's 'Come Down and Meet the Folks' nights in London and their 2005 single 'Skydiver' was picked up by Channel 4 as the title music for 'A Bears Tail' (Bo Selecta) series. The Lazy Darlings are a loose collective of muscians, some from other Leeds outfits (I Concur, The Lodger, Ali Whitton and BrokenRecord Players) some are not. This is narcotic country pop where Spiritualized meets Hank Williams. It's loose, bright and probably very good for you. Kasima is a four-piece indie/blues group with a flair for harmonic writing and instrumental devilry. The Vile Darling Set is a blend of acoustic folkyness that sounds like hopeless romance in the wrong hands.
