You Are We...
Blurbs
About me:
In the Summer of 2009 You Are We... carved a real name for itself with a series of superb FREE Sunday day-time parties featuring the richest mix of house producers that meet our music policy, at Corbet Place in The Truman Brewery, East London. In December of 2010 we built on the growing reputation of You Are We... when we launched our Saturday Sessions Winter project at a brand new warehouse on Great Eastern Street. The strength of these parties has guaranteed our return to the space in the future.
The Summer of 2011 we have returned to our roots with 2 Bank Holiday daytime parties at Corbet Place, with a better sound system, larger terrace and even more people... all the while keeping the party FREE.
We have found a new home for the Winter of 2011 at the legendary Village Underground and are looking forward to flexing our audible muscles there over the next few months and into 2012. Keep your ears to the ground and eyes on the East London streets to stay ahead of all things You Are We...
You Are We Purveyors of the finest house music since 2009, with special thanks to Lee Curtiss / David Keno / FB Julian / BLM / Leif / Tom Craven / Subb-An / Scott Martin / Ekkohaus / Hector / Tim green / Boris Horel / Burnski / Dan Doran / Session Victim / Trus'me / Sandeman & Dickie / Fabio Teti / Dan Farsarelli / Robert James / Richie Ahmed / Laura Jones / Adam Shelton.

Guests DJs...
Former international aid worker teams up with Icelandic security specialist and former top model to create an international DJ supergroup. Certainly not what you'd expect from a group called Thugfucker - but then Greg Oreck and Holmar Filipsson often do tend to defy expectations. One a New Yorker transplanted to Europe, the other an Icelander transplanted to New York. Both from a strong musical background with an almost obsessive dedication to the art of wild party instigation.
Growing up on an Icelandic commune full of some of the country's finest political thinkers, Holmar eschewed his past and all the heady philosophy of his childhood to move to New York and search out more physical and visceral methods of bringing happiness to the masses.
Meanwhile Greg was in the midst of a successful (if short-lived) political career in America when he too became disillusioned with the duplicity and self serving interest of those around him. Disturbed by the void he saw in most people's lives, it was in the dark depths of the New York underground club scene that he finally found his true calling.
Unbeknownst to each other, Holmar and Greg then propelled themselves along similar paths, throwing parties, honing their musical & studio skills and searching out inspiration from a wide variety of musical sources.
Then one late night, in a cloudy alcohol fueled discussion about the plight of the genetically Rhythm-Blind, Holmar and Greg recognized the depth of their shared passions. Thugfucker was born
DEATH ON THE BALCONY
For some time now the combined forces of Mark Caramelli and Paul Hargreaves have been causing quite a stir under their guise, Death on the Balcony. Their style fuses a range of influences from Disco & Deep House through to House & Deep Techno depending on the time, space and environment. Years of dedicated musical passion and an appreciation of numerous genres have lead to their sound becoming perfected and receiving popularity across the board. Expect some surprises from the duo’s record bag packing an endless warmth & soul on their journey with you...Death on the Balcony’s release schedule is continually active with DOTB releasing & remixing with the likes of Culprit LA, Pets Recordings, Silver Network, Illusion Recordings, Akbal Music & Airdrop, with forthcoming releases on One Records, Hissy Fit & Join The Dots. Whether it’s disco inflected fuel or house rhythms, these eclectically deft producers will juxtapose anything they lay their hands upon, mixing the beat of the drum with the melodic buzz of a hazy brain.
As one of the UK’s finest up and coming acts Death on the Balcony will be delivering more productions, remixes and playing world wide gigs as their range of musicality continues to evolve and they deliver a unique, well-timed narrative of the best sounds around.
Resident DJs
Producer / DJs Playset were formed after an east London night of debauchery united Tom and Ashley. The two soon realised their tastes and influences were uniquely complimentary both in the booth and the studio, and the music started to flow.
Since starting out at the age of 19 Tom has played at many of the world’s most influential parties ranging from the TDK festival and Circo Loco through to Soul II Soul’s Back to life events in Antigua as well as memorable sets at some of the biggest clubs in the world such as The Cross, The End and many others. His career so far has seen him play alongside many world class artists ranging from Jamie Jones, Smash TV and Solomun to Masters At Work, Mr C and Pete Tong.
Ashley Wilds lineage started after he fell in love with house music on hearing “Last Rhythm” in the halcyon days of illegal raves. Enamored, Ashley turned up at a warehouse party with his record bag and a battered set of headphones and soon became established on the underground music scene. Today he has featured at many an east London party and further afield in Ibiza, France, Egypt, the USA and Sweden to name a few highlights.
On a production level Tom draws influence from artitists as varied as Liquid Liquid to Hawtin, Jassanova to Peshay, a factor that is evident in both their sets and production. Ashley’s influences range from Roots and folk to jazz, hip hop, house and techno.
As residents at You Are We Playset have the platform they deserve. One thing’s for sure, 2010 promises to be a big year for the guys. Watch out for releases coming very soon.
