What follows the ongoing saga of Skip ..n.. Chery.
TIMELINE
Summer2004-Starts in Fuzhou, Fujian, China, Legendary NY Punk Guitarist Skip Lunch meets Chinese pirate whore drummer Chery Bomb. "I heard you play drums. We should get together some time." Svengali-like Skip saw a potential partner in crime here, but who knew?
Winter2004-After long searching for BASS, they finally met with Australian joy-boy Richie Rich. Richard was into grunge, and he drugged the band with Valium, .....so- he pased the audition with flying colors!!!
DEBUT GIG-Nov 2004.
JAN 2005-Becoming the unlikely house band at a Jazz & Blues bar, the "foreign" band found a home. A home that served them Free Beer 24hrs/7days.
This is where the band really cut their teeth, playing punk rock classics ALL night, every weekend.
Summer-2005
- Chery Bomb got into a serious online fight with the local musicians, her own countrymen. Many accused her of "having no national pride", and"blindly worshiping anything or anyone foreign". Solution? Chery played like a mad cave-woman at the next showcase- everyone shut their mouth. Now, You Mei You really was hot shit. What next?
August - BANNED! Battle of the bands..sponsored by a provincial newspaper. Since all media gets censored by the Culture Bureau, they were simply banned after day one- because they were "foreigners"!?!. Losing the cash prize was worth it, YMY almost got into Rolling Stone Magazine over that!
TV for literally millions! 0N SETV's "American Idol clone" which broadcasts overseas. We could have watched it if we'd had an illegal dish.
Out of the ghetto- YMY moves northward to Nanjing for a better music scene, often playing support for the touring foreign and Beijing bands. When the only Nanjing venue closed, YMY saves the scene by literally building the stage at the CASTLE BAR- the local scene still survives.
Spring Festival 2006 - TOUR! An outstanding hometown come-back with a vengeance show in Fuzhou... yet- RICHARD GOT KILLED by a knife that night. He was not even 24.
The band must carry on. You'll always be with us Richard.
Autumn - YMY moved again- to XIAMEN a great little city in the tropical zone.
Playing guitars by the ocean beach, a musical shift was about to occur..INSTRO/SURF, the New Religion..
Spring, 2007 - Merging with dutch music guru Hans Fenger, a common perspective was created - surf music with two guitars and drums only. The band's debut show was terrific, but Alas, The CLAMPS was too killer to last..
OCT '07- YOU MEI YOU back together in BEIJING, instantly becoming a fixture at Club D-22- "the CBGB's of China". The BEIJING BEAT has been getting LOUDER ever since!!!!!!
SEPT 2008- With the amazing TOMMY GUN on bass, the band finally makes a proper demo! .....AND in Only half the time it took Axl Rose to do his CD! (*:
2009- Promises to the best year ever, with the "single"
ALL TALK, NO ACTION!
released on New Years Day. PLAY IT LOUD.
