Formed in 2008 after keyboardist/vocalist Sarah Fisher moved back to Texas and began jamming with high school bandmate and guitarist Matt Shasteen, the duo soon began recruiting other musicians to fill out the line-up. They next added Matt's old bandmate Jon McKnight (formerly of Albatross) on guitar and vocals. Ian Mesey of Paper Airline soon followed on bass guitar, and the band was complete with the addition of Ramon Muzquiz (3X Soapbox Derby Champ) on drums.
Throughout their debut, self-titled LP, Young and Brave effortlessly blends influences that run the gamut of American music, from 60's pop to gospel, 70's country to Motown soul, rock and roll to bluegrass. Somehow, from all of this, Young and Brave is able to mold a cohesive, unique sound that is both classic and contemporary.
The LP is purely DIY. It was recorded between Sarah and Ian's living rooms with the help of their friend Joel Adair, and mixed/mastered by Matt. Each CD case is painstakingly screen printed by the band, ensuring that no two covers are alike; the process adheres to YAB's mantra, "the band that crafts together, stays together."
