With songs that are as contagious as Influenza, This East Orange native is
slowly emerging in the Hip Hop and R&B world as a “sick” producer
and writer! Known for the catchy hooks he composes, Young Degree has begun
raising the temperature of the game with records many call “Heaters.”
Young is the definition of what happens when talent and swagger are combined into
an artist that has studied under grammy nominated and award winning writers.
Born Michael Hobbs, Young Degree didn't become serious about music until
the summer of 2001 after dropping out of college to become a producer and
A&R for Tallest Tree Music and Arista/J Records. During that time Young signed
his first publishing deal with "Dreamworks" Music Publishing and
worked with many artists such as: Alicia Keys, Pras, Joe Thomas, O-Town, Olivia,
Case, George Benson, Tyrese, and Jaheim. Young was also introduced to Mercel
& Xcel Stephen, an engineer from “The Hit Factory” in NYC. Mercel and
Degree developed a strong business relationship and in 2003, they worked together
restoring life to C&C Music factory Mix studios.
After almost losing his life in 2005. Hobbs made a choice not to continue
his career in music and for three years he gave up on his dream. Learning and
living through life's lessons included the loss of his publishing deal, however
this would prove to be a blessing in disguise; And in late 2008 Young Degree
decided to take a different road to stardom and refocused his energy on his
passion for music.
Embodying every quality of a true leader, Young Degree joined X-Cel
creating his own entertainment venture the 900 Miles imprint. They also launched,
All Jersey Radio LLC, A Internet radio and social networking website that
promotes and markets unsigned talent in the Garden State. Welcoming worldwide
listeners, the radio is a outlet for New Jersey's hottest recording artists to gain
recognition and exposure.
With a long term approach to his career and solid musical foundation,
Young Degree is also gearing up to release a compilation debut album "Young
Degree presents. The record boasts a wide variety of material ranging from
specially crafted songs for the ladies to street anthems that can resonate in
anyone's hood, the album is not only sprinkled with his life story but will have
guest appearances from various artists. Degree is also in the studio actively
submitting songs to the majors attempting to snag album credits.
His goals include seeking respect from the A&R community, currently
holding a directors position for a major record company, Young Degree also serves
as a “key-man” A&R for many of the elite All Jersey Radio
participants.
