About the Competition
The Young Drummer of the Year competition was put together to give the country’s young drumming talent a national and indeed international platform, which will act as the first steps in their musical career.
The competition has seen tremendous growth both in the number of entrants and the standard of the finalists and the winner is kept busy with past winners making numerous TV and radio appearances, as well as support slots for the like of Billy Ward, Thomas Lang, Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez and Stanton Moore and every winner opens the Drummer Live show in London.
Finalists will have to perform a solo piece and two other pieces with a band on the day. One of these pieces of music is sent to each finalist a few weeks before the finals. The second piece of music will be released at the finals. A five piece kit, hi-hats, 2 crash cymbals, a ride cymbal, stool and hardware will be provided on the day. You may only use your own kick pedal and of course sticks.
