The National Youth Film School.
In the four years of its existence the National Youth Film School has grown into the foremost developmental training and production programme for young people (aged 13 to 20 years) interested in film making and media production. Using such equipment as Panasonic HD Cameras (plus a variety of other formats) and Professional DAT equipment.
Five feature films have been made as part of the National Youth Film School program – THE CHILDREN (2002), STEALAWAY (2003) (both U.S. Film Festival winners), LILY'S BAD DAY (2004) and ELIZA MAYFLOWER (2005). And in 2007 we launched our most ambitious project yet with the NYFS, SUCKERS.
No other film making programme offer you the opportunity to work at such a professional level with broadcast equipment.
Last years feature movie was SUCKERS and was directed by John Doran and Chris Slack from a script by John Morton. It tells the tale of a detention class in a secondary school who are the only survivors against a vampire virus that has turned their teachers into bloodthirsty leeches. It was our biggest, messiest, most ambitious production yet.
In 2008 we made our newest feature film, a feature length homage to the classic silent comedies called THE SUITORS. It is written and directed by Stephen Colfer and will be released in early 2009.
The story involves 3 men (all versions of silent movie comedy stars) who are in a comically intense competition for the hand of the fair Daisy. However, slapstick soon turns to bloodbath as their attempts to sabotage each other gets nasty.

FROM THE HILL OF TARAS ROYAL GROVE:(THIS IS AN REPOST) To us artists, Tara and its environs are of supreme importance - a basic part of our treasured heritage. Any consideration of mere convenience such as an autoroute on Tara would be a desecration of our heritage.
- Anne Madden and Louis le Brocquy, statement to UNESCO, June 2008.
An art auction is being held on Saturday, 21 June, in the Pearse family home, at 27 Pearse Street, Dublin, in order to fund the delegation. Works of art are being donated by a number of celebrated Irish artists, including Louis le Brocquy, Jim Fitzpatrick and Tom Mathews. The auction remains open for other artists to donate works, if they wish to participate.
Human Image XIII by Loius Le Brocquy
Louis le Brocquy has kindly donated a print of Human Image XIII to the auction. in the Human Image series, le Brocquy concentrated on the isolated, solitary figure. Their form is reduced to its most basic, as the figures emerge from light and merge into darkness as though floating somewhere between reality and consciousness. The guide price is 6,500 euros. The print can be viewed at the Taylor Galleries, 16 Kildare Street, up until the day of the auction. Mr le Brocquy and Anne Madden will also provide a written statement, concerning the artistic importance of Tara, to be submitted to UNESCO.
Human Image XIII by Louis le Brocquy Delegation to UNESCO World Heritage Committee meeting, Quebec, 2-10 July
TaraWatch is sending a delegation to the UNESCO World Heritage Committee meeting, to the held in Quebec City, 2-10 July, to lobby for the preservation of the Hill of Tara archaeological complex, being threatened by the M3 motorway construction works. A petition will be handed in, along with a formal submission. This initiative is being taken in response to the proposal by Minister for the Environment, John Gormley, to make a Tara World Heritage site, with the M3 passing through the middle of it. TaraWatch supports the nomination of Tara, but wants UNESCO to insist that the M3 is re-routed first.
All the works will be on display at Pearse House, from 11.00am onwards, on 21 June. The auction itself will take place at 7.00pm. For more information, please contact info@tarawatch.org / +353-87-972-8603 or +353-87-132-3365
