Young musicians were touring Europe with a program, which they had planned together and includes European folklore, popular music as well as jazz. The young musicians play in sensual way using the musical roots of Europe.
During this summer the young people from eleven countries from Finland to Bulgaria went on tour through eastern Europe. It was a journey into the diversity of traditional and modern folklore with unconventional, playful improvisation and groovy jazz.
This garland of multiethnic variety is made up of own cultural traditions that each of the musicians brings along. A successful fusion of traditional elements and popular music come into being and give us an insight into foreign cultures and an idea of intercultural artistic work.
These different musical influences are brought out with lightness and joy that will overcome borders. EUROPE grows together, the YOUNG MUSIC CARAVAN supply the soundtrack for that. The project aims at providing a mutual knowledge of the music culture of both the “old” and the “new” EU countries, and creating a bond between the young, culturally curious Europeans.
One of the fundamental ideas behind the Caravan is that the participants bring different musical influences from their home countries to the project. In addition, the young musicians contribute with traditional music, their own ideas and partly also instrumentation. Through an unrestrictive concept, which allows the constant development of new ideas during the creative process, a mutual, contemporary and refreshing sound is produced, which comprises elements of European and international folklore, popular music as well as jazz.
In the summer of 2007 a group of 24 young people of different nationalities (musicians and documentary and technical crew) set off from Berlin with a music programme compiled during the of summer 2006 in the direction of eastern Europe. The main destinations of this tour were the new EU states Romania and Bulgaria. They also played in Poland, Slovakia, Serbia, Croatia and Austria.
The Young Music Caravan is co-financed by the youth programme of the European Union.
