Young Rival, formerly known as The Ride Theory, have chiseled their sound and arrived at something effortlessly cool. The Hamilton, Ontario based four-piece have successfully bridged the gap between past and present. This is a rock band with the subtlety of The Zombies and the brashness of Arctic Monkeys. They make intense guitar music influenced by a time when rock and roll was young and fearless; played in a time when we’ve forgotten just how good that sounds.
“We respect the rawness and realness behind a lot of old records,” explains drummer Fralick. “Bands actually had to communicate and play well together, be it in the studio or at a show. That sentiment and that authenticity have, to an extent, been lost in an age of digital editing.” In striving to recapture that synchronicity, Young Rival’s reputation for being a compelling live act has begun to precede them.
The band’s unfinished demos are already getting airplay on mainstream radio in the UK – (how often does that happen?), and they've recently finished recording their debut album in New York City with Grammy-award winning producer Emery Dobyns (Battles, Antony and the Johnsons, Patti Smith). Over the last few months, Young Rival have completed a cross-country tour with The Sadies, and have most recently finished touring with Born Ruffians.
Young Rival is a band that was made for the road: they are at once big, loud, dark, and melodic -- like the sound of a band that has toured the world and sold tons of records. 2008 will also see the band take their show to the UK. For now, they are looking forward having new demo CDs available at their shows and making sure the important people – their audience – are kept in the loop. Stay tuned…Young Rival are coming to your town in stereo.

we'll also be in Hamilton Friday May 2nd at the Corktown.
I wasn't gonna say anything, and I may not be a hamilton garage-psych legend like the saucers, but if you can squeeze in a pal who can drop the bass right out and play it cold cream, well then, feel free to shoot me back in there, but no pressure buds.
We're FINALLY playing our first show in London TONIGHT at The London Music Club (470 Colborne Street) - we're opening for Winnipeg's Mahogany Frog. Doors are at 7pm and we hit the stage at 8pm - early show! Hope you can make it!
cheers for last night boys. great night. only wish we'd have stayed around to witness the madness. next time. hope it all went well & you played to a sweaty crowd.
That was a scorching set at The Rivoli. Sometimes you see bands that capture the timeless spirit of rock and roll, almost like mini-uprisings, that eternal bedrock. That's what I sensed with Young Rival. That burning fire, that garage-rock attitude--and without being overly aggressive, it's all about guts and being daring. God bless The Nuggets series. God bless rock and roll.
