About me:

Youth Leading Change is a project of the Safe Streets Campaign, and it gives high school students the skills and knowledge to serve as leaders in their community. We encourage them to make positive choices for the future. The outcome is empowered youth encouraging and promoting civic engagement within their school and neighborhood community. They share their knowledge both informally, and through class presentations as well as school-wide assemblies. The YLC members have the opportunity to participate in activities focusing on leadership development.
We are currently active in the following high schools:
- Foss
- Lincoln
- Mount Tahoma
- Stadium
- Wilson
If you do not attend the following schools, and would like to form a community based site group, please contact Mike Babauta at (253) 272-6824 ext. 225(office).

This past school year, 2005-2006, Safe Streets has chosen a superstar of the year from a member of the Youth Leading Change program. Vien Hua, a senior at Mt. Tahoma High School and Core Youth Leader, not only spearheaded several projects within his school, but also assisted in planning the Youth March for Peace on the Eastside.

- 2. Safe Streets Campaign for Outstanding Youth Group, 1996-97
- 3. Commendation from General McCaffery, Director, Office of National Drug Control Policy, 1997 and 1998
- 4. Outstanding youth tobacco prevention with the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department, 2003-2004
