Last year the BIG VOTE 07 gave the opportunity to all the voters to select an issue they felt strongly about. We gave a range of different issues they could choose and these were the results:
Drugs
Smoking
Places to go and things to do
Using the results we could base our campaigns around the issues that the young people wanted. So these issues were acted on and dealt with!
We represent young people between the age of 11-19 not just locally, but regionally and nationally.
in 2007 more than 16,700 people voted for the majority of the cabinet! (Higher than the local elections) the other memebers of the cabinet are coopted e.g. looked After Children, Youth Development Service, the Service for Children with Sensory Needs and Park College.
We only campaign on the issues that other young people think are important. In 2007 over 12,000 young people told us that ‘Places to go, Things to do’, ‘Stop Smoking’ and ‘Drugs’ were their biggest concerns. While in 2006 a further 8,500 young people asked us to campaign on Bullying, Safety and Exam stress.
We represent young people’s views to the people who make decisions about your lives in East Sussex- so that’s everything from the police and health service through to connexions and transport, then everything in between.
