| About DJ Arrow & Ras Rican (YouthFiyah Sound) |

The idea of creating a sound system was initially brought up to me by my good friend Jonah during the late 90's. It was a time when I was still finishing up my schooling at UCLA and Jonah, a homegrown San Franciscan, had just graduated from the School of the Arts SF. The idea was simple - to bring conscious, lyrically provocative music with a touch of the underground to the youth massive. We wanted to incorporate the name "Youth" to signify our family community and the word "Fiyah" to symbolize the vibrant fire energy that we possess to make positive changes. Thus, YOUTHFIYAH sound system was formally born in 2001. The movement began with a few DJ gigs for various local youth organizations such as Loco Bloco to help raise funds for their first big trip to Cuba. Another memorable gig was a series of parties called "Jiggy For Justice" out of SF State. The family was growing as well, with founding members I-Jonah and DJ Arrow being supported by other local DJs in the scene such as SG-13 (now known strictly as Sean G), Chepo (who went by the moniker of Osiris), Chris (Powder P who moved to NY) and Justin (who currently goes by Robot Jones). We also had the blessings to link up with other crews such as Jah Warrior Shelter, Sake 1, Nopal Clothing, DJ Kayumanggi (KPFA), YouthSpeaks, DJ Papa Joe and many others in the struggle. The period of around 2001-2004 was very productive for the collective as the shows were consistent (venues such as Mission Rock & Club Six) and the members were really digging deeper into their musical genres and locking in their styles. Sean G and Chris were focused on HipHop, Chepo and Jonah were studying the world of Reggae&Dancehall and Justin was evolving as a true soul/funk connoisseur. The later years of Youthfiyah family would have its sole members branch out and do other things but the commitment to the music and the artform was well in place and solidified. Currently, YOUTHFIYAH actively consists of me (DJ Arrow) and Ras Rican and the focus is Reggae and Dancehall. I invited Ras Rican to join the sound in late 2006 to add his wisdom of British Reggae and UK Lover's Rock to fiyah family. We have also incorporated a Publicity/PR department, which is handled by my good friend Kiaran Cheevers. Mr. Cheevers is very instrumental in managing the myspace account as well as linking up with other local DJ crews and promoters. You can hear me regularly as the resident DJ for Native Elements band as we tour locally and internationally. ----- Respect DJ Arrow
