The Global Youth Council for Wildlife Conservation was formed in April 2007, at Jane Goodall’s Global Youth Summit which brought together 100 youth from 26 countries around the globe.
The summit ran for one week between the 19th-25th April and brought together youth from diverse backgrounds to discuss issues of global importance such as wildlife conservation, climate change and poverty. Of the 100 youth that attended, 29 combined their key interest, wildlife conservation, to form a global network through which they could continue the efforts of the Jane Goodall Institute with a focus on wildlife conservation.
The council, which continues to be inspired by Dr Jane Goodall’s philosophy that “every individual can make a difference," aims to protect wildlife and their natural habitats whilst raising awareness in local communities of the plight of these unique and beautiful creatures as well as providing information to individuals as to what they can do to support the efforts of the GYCWC.
Through the GYCWC’s global network, members are able to share information and ideas, raise money and link up experts and volunteers with suitable projects, and in doing so, create a council of youth equipped with the ability to provide sorely needed knowledge and assistance to projects and individuals in need of aid or information.
To do so, the GYCWC aims to work with like minded organizations and form a link up between such organizations in an effort to increase public awareness to the plight of certain species.
GYCWC would like to acknowledge the Jane Goodall Institute, for without the assistance of JGI, GYCWC would not exist as it does today.
