About me: On scheduled dates, KRUX 91.5 fm NMSU will broadcast radio programs put together by youth in Las Cruces, NM. Radio broadcasting workshops began in 2003 and have been conducted with the ¡ASP! program, the Stepping Stones Group Home and at the John Paul Taylor Detention Center.
Youth Radio focuses on providing a platform for youth to plan, organize and create a 30 min. or 60 min. program consisting of their own radio show name, their own creative identity on air, music from their own collections/taste and their own spoken word poetry/rap lyrics. Youth Radio's goal is to motivate creative involvement of its participants in an environment where opportunities towards higher education exist.
Youth Radio also encourages youth to explore themes, topics, and content included in their music and to create programs that promote variety and substance. The program is also invested in providing youth with the opportunity to broadcast their voices to the local/global online community and to study radio broadcasting by actually becoming involved as active participants behind the mic. Youth also work on creating their own fliers and promoting their shows to the surrounding community. More information will be provided soon here and at: voicesbehindwalls.org
