We're bringing you fresh kills from the frontlines of photography. The
Inaugural Lan Franchis Slide Night will feature three photo essays
with live commentary.
Sean Hobbs, photojournalist, will be presenting fresh material from
the war on terror. We can't tell you too much about these photos in
advance, because we're not allowed to, but they are awesome and he
nearly got killed bringing them to you.
Alex Edmonds, anthropologist, will be documenting the results of his
research into backyard plastic surgery in Rio de Janiero. Brazil is
the only country on earth that covers breast implants and liposuction
under public health care, because they recognise that being ugly is an
ailment. For the transvestites that live in the slums of Rio, even the
public hospitals are out of reach. They get their silicon implants
directly with high gage needles. The results can be dire. Dr Edmonds
has the photos to prove it.
Adam Jasper will be explaining how he pretended to be Catholic
missionary in order to bullshit his way into the worst Philippino
prison he could find for Vice magazine. He's going to explain what you
need to do to have an awesome time in a South East Asian gaol.
Musical interludes by Nixon Wolf. There will be a bar, and because the
bar will make us some money, drinking and smoking will not only be
allowed, it will be encouraged.
Door proceeds will go to a fund to bail first offenders out of Philippino gaols.
