As a lad my paper route took me to the house of famous record producer Jo Jo Smiley. One day the horoscope section was missing from his paper. Alarmed, he came outside, shaking from his famous case of alcoholism, rings flashing in the morning sun. I stopped my bike and asked if everything was alright.
He brought me inside, past a taxidermied Chimpanzee like the one in Julian Schnabels house, past a grand piano owned by Franz Liszt, a grandfather clock, a human brain in formaldahyde called Dr. Omar. We read the horoscopes together out loud, and we laughed. Then we watched a baseball game. His loungechairs were satiny, his garden luxurious. And then music began to follow me on my paper route, to go everywhere with me to the point that my ears were shut to everything but it.
I have since had a solo record on Capitol where I did something as novel as sing, produced the bands The A.M. and Black Beetle with close friend and Viper Brothers other half, Michael Tighe. I have recently collabo'd as a writer/producer with Ebony Bones, Benny Blanco, Amanda Blank, Dragons of Zynth, Mark Ronson, and Daniel Merriweather. Love AW
