About me:

What is Young Sisters For Justice in Philanthropy (YSFJP)?

YSFJP is a project where young women learn about social justice issues, political education, community organizing, & social change philanthropy. We use a popular education & shared leadership model in our work. The goal is to build awareness amongst young people about the root causes & needs behind social justice work being done by many organizations, communities, and individuals worldwide.

Why should you get involved in the YSFJP project?

Social, economic, political, & environmental injustices still exist in our world. YSFJP exposes what kinds of work are being done for justice in many local communities, and the Young Sisters will learn how the Boston Women’s Fund supports this work. Young Sisters will also have the opportunity to use their leadership skills by engaging other young people in social justice & philanthropy through a community organizing effort.

How will you be impacted by participating in the YSFJP project?

Young Sisters will gain a deeper understanding of the social justice work happening in our communities. The YSFJP project can open eyes and open doors. Some past Young Sisters now work with foundations, social justice organizations, fundraising positions, or furthering their academic studies in fields like media, law, or politics.

Formerly called the Young Sisters For Justice, we were actually born in 1997 and already three 2-year sessions have happened. What an amazing, powerful history (herstory)!

We are now in our 4th session of the Young Sisters For Justice project, with an emphasis on Philanthropy, which we've defined as the effort to improve the well-being of humankind with the driving force being the LOVE for humankind. YSFJP will learn & practice philanthropy through many ways that are so important & valuable. Everyone can be philanthropists!

Rather than standing or speaking for children, we need to stand with children speaking for themselves.

There it is:
And if we don’t fight
If we don’t resist
If we don’t organize and unify and
Get the power to control our own lives
Then we will wear
The exaggerated look of captivity
The stylized look of submission
The bizarre look of suicide
The dehumanized look of fear
And the decomposed look of repression
Forever and ever and ever
And there it is.

I've added a few things to my website.
First, there's a new sketch of Jeff Beaulieu from YFE.
It's not finished, but I'd like some critiques. I also added the new installment of the Lexi Lange series.

LAND OF THE FREE HOME OF THE BRAVE
OUR COUNTRY “WE” MUST SAVE
IRAQ…..A WAR OF CHOICE WHERE IS OUR VOICE
SHOCK & AWE A WORLD EVENT
REMEMBER “WE” WENT ON LENT
INNOCENT BLOOD SPENT
HAVE “WE” SEEN THE FEMA WRATH
LET US TOGETHER DO THE MATH
OUR REPUTATION & WEALTH DESTROYED
IMPEACHMENT………….VOID
OUR DOLLAR IS DOWN
OUR INTELECTUAL PROPERTIES SOLD AROUND
OUR JOBS FREE TRADED AWAY
OUR PENSIONS STOLEN ONE DAY
NOW FREE MARKETS TAKE OUR HOMES TODAY
HEALTH CARE & EDUCATION STANDARDS A DISGRACE
OUR JUSTICE SYSTEM BY CLASS & RACE
OUR PORTS & BORDERS NOT SECURED TODAY
ALL THOSE TRILLIONS BUSH JR. THREW AWAY
“TERROR” HE DOES SAY
NOW WE THE PEOPLE STILL HAVE A SAY

"Find out just what people will submit to, and you have found out the exact amount of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them; and these will continue until they are resisted with either words or blows, or both. The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress."

"In Left of Karl Marx, Carole Boyce Davies assess the activism, writing, and legacy of Claudia Jones (1915-1964), a pioneering Afro-Caribbean radical intellectual, dedicated communist and feminist.

Jones is buried in London's Highgate Cemetery, to the left of Karl Marx - a location that Boyce Davies finds fitting given how Jones expanded Marxism-Leninism to incorporate gender and race in her political critique and activism."

On TODAY'S SHOW, Thursday, January 17, 2008:

Host Kali Alexander talks to some folks who are truly transforming our community. Yoga instructors Purusha Hickson and Adrienne Smith will drop by to talk about transformation through the science of yoga, and filmmaker Tajamika Paxton will keep the yogic vibe alive with a sneak peek at her latest soulful comedic work, A Fat Girl's Guide to Yoga.

We'll also hear from Dr. Sharroky Hollie of Culture and Language Academy of Success (CLAS) who is on a mission to provide culturally responsive teaching to children in our community. Hear about the fight he and the parents and staff of CLAS are currently involved in with the L.A. Unified School District to keep the doors open. All of this and more, today on Some of Us Are Brave.
