It seems to me like everyone wants to paint Scott Weiland as the egotistical rock star brat, and Slash & Co. as the victims. I think Slash is pretty cool, but I don't understand why he's been idolized to the point where he can do no wrong in the public's eyes.

As much as I would like to see VR just disband completely, my understanding is that they are looking for a new lead vocalist. In that case, Cornell is the ONLY person in the world that I think could fit the bill. Not only does he have an amazing voice, he's also from the same era and genre that Weiland was from. Not only that, he's one of the few veteran rock stars out there that has any sort of coolness or style to him. I actually think he'd fit in nicely.
I read something about Sebastian Bach being considered....ugh. A choice like that would change VR from being a sexy, dangerous hard rock band to just a group of washed-up 80's metal has-beens.
