jordan's Interests
|
| General | music- like listening to it and creating it and shit. totally.
riding my bike. no spandex, though.
writing... i write poetry sometimes, just like 99% of humanity. some people think it's pretty good, and others tell me it's boring. interesting side note: i made more money as a professional poet ($80) than as a professional musician.
let's see, what else am i interested in? backpacking, mountains, streams; collecting, black sparrow press, backpacks; luigi serafini, charles bukowski, joe vaux; graphic novels, novels, graphics; louis ferdinand celine, john yau, dave eggers; the color green, my green desk, my new green rectangular water bottle; FMR, library cases, bodoni type; pro deals, bike parts, softshell jackets; triumverates, triumphant veracity, trivial verbosity; USC Football, punk rock music, riding trains; strawberry peak, josephine peak, hoyt mountain saddle; milk, milk, lemonade. | | Music | Avail, RKL, NOFX, SNFU, YTTH, Rush, Sick of it all, Paint it Black, ALL/Descendants (other way around), Gone, Faith no More, Claw Hammer, Frank Black, 80's new wave (Men Without Hats, Missing Persons, Wall of Voodoo), Tool, Warren Zevon, Lifetime, Air, The Pixies, The Pietasters, Pantera, 80's glam (Skid Row, Poison, Motley Crue, etc.) Propagandhi, Less than Jake, and tons more. I'd like to be able to say that I listen to all types of music, but that just isn't true. I hate hop hop music (although I've been branded as racist for this opinion, so I'll clarify that this is a TASTE issue, not a political statement), contemporary R&B is atrocious, country is absurdly awful, trance is boring, emo/indie is starved for attention (get it?), nu-metal should just convert back to metal, and hardcore is great if it's made by real instruments, but the kind made by ravers on computers and danced to by ravers on E makes my head want to explode. I like jazz a lot, and I like some classical music, too. I would say I enjoy classic rock, but the soothing sounds of 80's synth music speak to me more than overdriven guitars and soulful crooning. Also, I will defend that Boston wrote better pop songs than the Beatles, and that Rush (and not Zepplin or whoever else) was/is the most technically talented band in history. Did anyone else see the Family Guy when Chester Cheetah did a line of orange coke and then yelled about how Neil Peart was the best ***'in drummer in history? That's the kind of thing I would do if I ever did coke. Which is to say, I'd never do that kind of thing. | | Movies | american psycho, city of lost children, wet hot american summer, breaking the waves, fight club, jesus son, the jerk, pod people (w/ mst3k commentary), and a bunch of other shit i can't remember. | | Television | simpsons, family guy, arrested development, ben stiller show, mr. show (actually, pretend mr. show was first). | | Books | journey to the end of the night, codex seraphinianus, the magus, the raw shark texts, you shall know our velocity, hawaiian cowboys, ham on rye, SPENT, naked lunch, a thousand plateaus, fast food nation, zazie dans le metro, cat's cradle, the brothers karamazov, one hundred thousand billion poems, confederacy of dunces, zotl zoo, the third policeman, the supermale, weep not my wanton, the lost lunar baedeker, ulysses, ubu roi. | | Heroes | People who get where they are in life by being talented and sincere, rather than by using sex, money, backstabbing, family, or connections to hurl them to a level that surpasses what they're capable of. Also, people who are really good at math and physics. |

jordan's Blurbs |
About me:
This is what it says in the most recent issue of Cause and Effect Magazine, which I think is probably the most definitive source for information "about me"...
"Jordan Hurder lives in Oakland, CA. He holds 1 1/3 degrees and has grease on his kitchen utensils from working on his bicycle while making dinner. He can be found off in the woods somewhere or at www.myspace.com/ytth."
|
Who I'd like to meet:
Someone who wants to go backpacking with me, but not just so he/she can stab or rape me. Also, someone who writes books that I happen to collect and who would like to sign them for me.
